    Morning Xpf,

I like the word portfolio, as I have one too! lol

I know what you mean about exhausting the market at work, I find that word of mouth is working best for me, even though I have a website.

Do you have a local magazine that gets delivered every so many months around where you live?

Or how about your local hairdresser, beauty shop, places like that?

Although I don't use shops so can't really advise on that, sorry..

I had another order for a baby boy nappy cake, which is here:

I've been selling my cakes at work for the last few months but am beginning to think that I've just about exhausted the market there now. I'm going to sort out my portfolio (ok, snapshots - but I do try to sound posh!) and approach some local shops about stocking my cakes. What kind of shops do you all sell in? Florists, chemists, baby shops??
  • Hello!

I am a total newbie to MSE and Nappy Cakes.. I have just started selling nappy cakes, done a few for friends and family etc.

Do any of you have any advise for a newbie!!?? (where to get stock etc).. I have seen a few bits on ebay which looks cheaper to buy in bulk, I am currently searching wholesalers.

I have seen the thread on netmums too, I think its fab.. I think the nappy cakes you have all done are gorgeous.

I hope to hear from you

    Thanks so much xx

    SallyUK, Lovely cute cake!
It's interesting What you said about getting more orders word of mouth than your website.
Iwas thinking about a website and got bought "Mr Site" for my birthday. (Don,t know the first thing about doing it) Trouble is, I can't come up with a name I really like!

Does anyone have a problem with people coming to the house to pick cakes up?
(When they havn't ordered a particular one)
I always have a few cakes in stock and when anyone comes I have to take them upstairs so they can pick one. Plus, I have cream carpets! Arghhh!
I have nowwhere downstairs were I can show them.
Just wondered what everyone else does

I display my cakes in a car parts & accessories shop LOL Its my hasbands business and it started out as a good collection point then i had a couple on the floor behind the counter i have now nicked 2 shelves. They sell supprising well, so much so with that and word of mouth i have stopped doing craft fairs etc. Allthough i dont want the cakes to sell too well as i know i will get board if i have to make too many.

  • I have a few acquaintances ( 1 girl from high skool, 1 from a previous workplace,1 from an old sporting team) that are pregnant. I was thinking of maybe making them mini cakes but putting a card with my details in it and on the contents card. I do not regularly talk to these ladies anymore so I was wondering if any of you ladies had done this, given out free cakes to generate interest/word of mouth and did it work?

I only do collection from my house but people do choose from photos beforehand (Flikir or my new website that DD has made for me). Luckily I am in a bungalow and my younger DD is at Uni. so I use her bedroom for collection (always have a few othesr lying around for show ;)

    Hi Moonpenny

    Thanks!

Could you maybe just bring the cakes downstairs when the person is in your house, rather than have them walk over the cream carpets?
