  • LOL@ Queen bee's "Nappy new year", hoping we all get lots of orders this year :) I did a couple of christmas ones but no others for a bit, am doing 2 orders at the moment, one for a 3 tier with stuff for mum,dad and baby in, and another 3 tier boys one (a design ive done before so wont take as many hours as the other one!), am getting quicker at it but don't know how some of you manage to make several in a day! I still really enjoy it though and would never of done it without the advice and encouragement of you all so thanks :)

BTW i got the little woods sale catalogue today, have spent too much money on christmas bits from asda and matalan which is a shame as there are some great bits in the sale included a reindeer hat and pop on set for £3.50, piglet outfit for £3.50, 2 sets of christmas pj's for £4 etc :)

Hey guys, hope you all had a 'nappy' christmas.

Not done a cake for a while but have decided that I'm going to try and go for it this year.

I lost my job last week (23rd December, wooh) and am deciding what to do next. I've been offered the chance to go self employed with a friend doing graphic design but there wont be enough money to support myself. So I'm thinking of doing nappy cakes on the side to try and boost it up.

Does anyone here make a good amount of money from it?

  • Sorry to hear you lost your jon kr15snw. I don't make very much from it at all but I'm not well enough to do the craft fairs etc. Obviously I dont know how much she makes but giggle sells an awful lot and does an awful lot of craft fairs so she might be a good one to ask :)

I wanted to ask if anyones sold on blankets? I brought some of these sm650.jpg

They are fine but are a little bit thinner than the ones i ususal use so have decided not to use them so im stuck with about 4. Has anyone sold unwanted nappy bits/blankets on ebay before? I would hope for £1.50 for them but i guess anything is better than nothing and they are taking up space!

  • Hi Everyone,

I'm quite new to making nappycakes but I have been quite lucky in that I have managed to get my cakes into a shop in Brighton called Charlie Barley. This was a totally chance meeting when I was on a hen party and I popped into the shop to have a look at a few presents for my 2 children and got chatting to the owner! I haven't been supplying the shop for long and so far I just make the cakes but would really like to branch out and do some cheaper items such as cupcakes / smoothies etc but not too sure where to source all the products at wholesale prices. If anyone could point me in the direction of a baby sock / washcloth supplier that would be fantastic!

If anyone wants to take a look at my cakes go to charliebarley. co. uk (it won't let me post links as I'm a new user) and its under Rachels-Nappycakes. Would love some feedback (negative and positive!!)

Fingers crossed that 2010 will be a good one for branching out and possibly getting my cakes into more shops!!

    Thanks

    Rachel

I do do really well with mine but its all took time been doing them now for over 5 years and i do lots of other baby, mums and dads gifts. I wouldnt make a living just on the nappy cakes this year 2009 ( whats left of it) as been my best year ever i would say give it a go but saying that i dont think it wold pay all the bills but it would help

They are really lovely :) I want to use feathers in mine (I brought some a while back) but havent found a way of doing it yet.

Can I ask how it works with them, do they buy them in advance, what kind of mark up are they looking for? My dad was talmking to a shop owner but he wanted 100% mark up which i think tbh made mine over priced (even if i wasnt making a penny).

  • Happy new year everyone.
I haven't been on here for so long, been a bit busy changing my own nappies lol. Baby harry was born on the 14th of dec and i had a nappy cake order a few days after we were home. Thankfully they wanted one i had already made up, i also have an order for a hamper this month so it seems to slowly be picking up for me but at the wrong time lol. I did a craft fair a week before i was due ( i know i must have been mad) but i did really well i was a little shocked as a chap came up to my stall, didn't even look at the cakes or the ingredients said he wanted the xmas one and shoved some notes in my hand. It was the quickest sale i have ever done.

Good luck getting all the sale stuff.
