So who has fairs coming up?? I`ve got 2 in November, so have started the `Mammoth Bake/Cake off` He he !
Off on Holiday in December, so would be nice to have some extra money to take with me, so the sales woman in me will be out with avengence!
The only thing is, I`m wondering how many Xmas cakes to `bake`, Made some last year and only sold 1 !!
There is also a local shop which would like to start stocking my cakes, after fiddling about with `recipes`, I am having a real struggle creating something spectacular with enough margin to make it worth both of out whiles...
Is anyone else in this position??
I`m going to see her next week, and am really not sure how she will react to the prices!!Debt Free Jan 2010!(Be happy) the state of your life is nothing more than the state of your mind! X:j0 -
Hi Liz
I've been asked to do two craft fairs soon and like you, I'm not sure how well they'll do as I find it quite difficult to find the ingredients cheaply enough to make much of a profit really. Although having said that, I make mainly towel cakes and the cost of towels, if you want half decent ones, is quite expensive.
Let us know how many you decide to do.
Good luck,
Sal

I was interested to read someone saying that the shop who was interested wanted a 25% upmark, i know people don't seem to like saying their agreement with shops but I would love to know what is most common. The shop my dad spoke to wanted a 100% mark upBest wins in 2013 £200 and Mini iPad. 2014 no wins. 2015 2 nights 5* hotel with £300 vouchers plus £1150 Harrods gift card

Most retailers will take between a 30% and 50% mark up on goods which is why they usually buy wholesale - obviously as they are getting it cheaper wholesale they then have enough room to mark up and still make it good value to the customer.
If you are making cakes using high-street priced contents then it will be tough to make enough money for yourself and give your stockist room for mark up on top._____________________________________________party_ Handmade Christmas and Occassions 2011 _party_OS Moneysaving as much as I canGonna live 'The Good Life' - grow my own and 4 hens

debsleypig - I'd love to make a full or part time living from doing this! I dont at the moment though - its more of a hobby for me but would love it to develop!
craft fairs!?! I have 7 or 8 before xmas! Looking forward to them all - there is something about sitting there all day and getting a sale which I am just addicted to!!! Mine are at various places from schools and nurserys to much bigger ones -just keeping fingers crossed I make my table money back at most although the last few have been quite good. Its difficult knowing how much and what stock to take though as what sells at one might not sell at another and if you dont have it you'll wish you did lol!0 -
Have just had a mammoth 'baking session' and have made seven cakes up tonight. There are no craft fairs in my area so I'm giving it a whirl at our local car boot sale tomorrow. I've made far simpler/smaller cakes than normal as I know people don't want to pay much at car boot sales. I hope I sell some as I'm spending far money on bits for nappy cakes than I'm making back at the moment.
Time to put my feet up before bed - gotta be up at 5am!
How did you get on at the car boot sales?I am determined to lose weight!:kisses3:
Weight loss so far 2 stones 6lbs!! :j:j0 -

Here's me reporting back as soon as I returned from my mission and you missed it!We'll I'm back from the bootsale and it wasn't a complete success but it may lead to some more sales. Only managed to sell 2 of the 7 cakes that I took (1 small one and 1 larger one sold) but had loads of nice comments and quite a lot of people took business cards.
I was pleasantly suprised that people didn't run a mile when I told them how much they were. I was charging £7 for a small one (15 nappies, 1 muslin and a toy) and £15-19 for a larger, 2 tier one (approx 30 nappies, blanket, muslin and toy).0
