This Xmas I was thinking of selling some things at School fairs/ Craft fairs and wanted to do some things more suitable for older children. I saw that Rusty did a couple of cakes with kids towels but everytime I try it, it looks like a dogs dinner. I understand with the nappy cakes there are nappies inside to wrap the things around but what could I put inside my kids towel cake? DOn't think they would appreciate nappies or toilet rolls? Any IDEAS would be much appreciated.

I have done a few blanket/towel cakes for older children and adults too. It is a bit tricky to get it to be as stable as a nappy cake but if you use toiletries etc inside it will hold. I made a big sister cake and inside used bubble bath, coluring book, pencils, purse all sorts really but it worked well and I topped it off with a cuddly rabbit! Good luck with your 'baking'!Proud mummy to 3 beautiful boys!0 -

When I'm using towels for kids or pamper cakes, I put a band of cardboard inside the towel when I have it folded over and it gives a really good shape to the "cake"....Cazo1:wave:0 -
Lovely cake Ashyspebbles! Looks great.
I do the same as Cazo1 for towel cakes ( only made a couple) but it was the only way I could get a decent cake shape that stayed as a cake.
Still like to do the 3 tiers though. top tier is normally 2 or 3 flannels.with a bath scrunchie on top!0 -
Oh yes I forgot to add that whilst hunting around boot fairs / charity shops etc keep your eyes open for the bath roses that disolve in the bath....I put them around the cake on the outside..looks great and usable.0

I used a plant pot inside mine as I had put in a sunflower kit so just added a plant pot... worked wonders!

Cathy - lovely cake! Like the idea of WTP sitting on a plate! It is isn't it!?! I never thought of that one before - good also for if you don't want the nappies to show I guess.
Making cakes for older kids - I have only done a couple, just used a ring of card thought the plant pot idea is good - if you can get them the little metal buckets might be useful although think they are more popular in spring timeI know you can get them with choc stuff in at easter. I suppose you could also use a basket if you found one the right size bread basket kinda size maybe bit smaller, wrap the towel on outside and then fill the basket and make it look like a cake - it does in my head anyway!!0 -
Thanks for the ideas - have a few of those cheap metal buckets from Ikea (used in chocolate bouquets last Xmas and were given back when choccies finished - my family know I like to re-use). These might work especially if I use the other idea of bulking out the towel with cardboard. Was thinking of using a Ben10 towel from Asda (lots of the the boys are into that at the mo), wrap round bucket and fill with bathtime stuff, top with facecloth/s & Bathtime toy. Do something similar for the girls. Maybe one or two for the babies (couple of new babies at the Nursery).0
