I know this sounds ridiculous, but does channel 5 have something built into their programmes to prevent us from fast forwarding. Whenever I try to fast forward ( ie during the commercials) it skips back to the beginning of the programme. It only happens with channel 5 programmes. Its very irritating.

Hi, that happens with me as well, most annoying. I was out and came home at 22:20 and my wife was watching channel 5 so I rewound it to the start of the programme and when the adverts came on I started to fast forward but it went back the way, I gave up and just left the programme playing. I do that al the time but it is only on channel 5 that it has ever done that.

That happens to us too. We only record CSI on channel 5 and it's highly frustrating! Everytime we press fast forward it jumps back to where we last started to play (i.e. it jumps back to the beginning of the previous advert break!)

Hmmmm sounds like they're broadcasting a signal to stop ad skipping. I'll have a go myself

If they are deliberately stopping people from ad-skipping I'll be less than impressed. That's the main reason I record things - I don't watch adverts, I don't like adverts, and I won't buy a service or product based on an advert, so what difference should it make to them whether I watch the flaming things!

Yup, happening here, too. Just tested it. How irritating.

Just tested it and can fast forward through ad break with no problem. However I am not using Sky+ or a Sky box.

I would think therefore it's nothing in the programming signal but coming from Sky. Maybe we are about to learn why Sky have been discounting Sky+ so heavily lately.

Me too, and again it's always CSI as that is the only thing I record off there too. I thought it was just my box/tv but obviously not. very strange, and even more annoying!!

Well, thank goodness its not just me, thought I was doing something wrong. It always does it on CSI, for also on films recorded on channel 5. Its REALLY annoying. Think I'll have a google & see if I can throw any light on it. Will post if I do.

I tried it a couple of days ago and it skipped through fine.

I wish I'd found this thread earlier - had my 4th Sky+ box in a month installed today because of the fast-forward skipping back problem. Knew it wasn't a recording problem and first time they sent me a new remote, so it wasn't that either. Whenever I phone Sky they say they've never heard of it happening. It's happened on Zone Romantica and Virgin, as well as C5. Also in 5 it's done it with live pause - when I Play after a pause it plays from where I started watching. I'm going to print off this thread and send it to Sky so they shouldn't say they don't know about it. If they'd just said it was a C5 broadcasting/signal issue, they'd have saved me a load of hassle with engineers coming with replacement boxes.
