If you read my posts on this thread it should be clear that I have investigated everyone's suggestion thoroughly, and that i've been very grateful for the help i've recieved.
Aside from that, thank you for your suggestion about staying in a hotel at one of the airports to break up the journey. Unfortunately I'd prefer not to do this as it cuts down on my 'holiday time'. I think i've come to the conclusion that convenience is going to be the winner on this one (just as you pointed out). So i'm probably going to plump for the Qantas walkabout deal. You're only young(ish) once I suppose
Nothing to do with being new to the forum. Just didn't want you to delay when the choices had been clearly presented and then end up paying more.0 -
ok fair enough, I know forums are bad at communicating tone so i'm happy to move on.
As I said, greatly appreciate the help from everyone, now I just have the second nightmare of sorting internal flights to Ko Samui from BGK and sorting hotels etc. At least i've got plenty of time before I go!0 -
Only one airline direct to Samui: Bangkok Airways.
If you need to save cash, look at the Early Bird/Late Night fares or any other promotion running at the time.
If you want to take the scenic route and save a bit of cash, fly with Air Asia to Surat Thani and the buy a bus/boat combination ticket from there for around £7.0 -

Well, apart from the two daily Thai flights from Bangkok, and the almost daily Firefly & Berjaya Air flights from Subang in Kuala Lumpur.
But that's splitting hairs, the Bangkok Airways flights are more frequent, and often cheaper unless you are flying Thai internationally, or happen to be going via Kuala Lumpur (and you'd most likely have to change airports in KL).0 -
He's flying from Bangkok. I certainly wouldn't consider flying Thai Airways to Samui. ALWAYS more expensive.
So I gave the realistic options rather than blinding with details. Bangkok Airways also has the Discovery Airpass if at least three sectors are to be flown.0 -

OK, well I was commenting on the comment "Only one airline direct to Samui: Bangkok Airways." which isn't true.
It's also not true that Thai Airways are ALWAYS more expensive.
If he books Thai Airways to Australia (Melbourne or Sydney), then he can get Bangkok - Samui flights for either a) free or b) £25 each way depending on which type of ticket he books, both of which are cheaper than Bangkok Airways.
I still maintain this could well be his cheapest option overall, noted I've said could as I'm not sure re: internal cheapie flights in Australia.
Also, I'm not a big fan of Thai, the seat pitch is good, the lack of seat back TV's is not.0 -
I think you'll certainly pay for it if you book Thai Airways to Australia.
Clearly, since the OP isn't flying with THAI, this possibilty isn't an option.
Saying that, they do have a promotion on at the mo: http://www.thaiairways.co.th/Promotion2009/HappyAllTheWayInThailand/index_en.html If you can actually get thier website to work.0
