Hi everyone,

Im just wondering what running shoes people would recommend? I love Nike Plus so would ideally want a pair of those thats not too important. What is important is having a good pair of trainers that provide the best protection for road running, i run about 3 times a weak and im very paranoid about giving myself dodgy knees! Any suggestions??

  • Asics are best
Go along to a running shop or john lewis
    Ask for gait analysis.
They will watch you run on trend mill and analyse your running style and recommend best trainer for you.
    But Asics are best

Agree again for asics. I had some cheapo Adidas to start with, and they made my knee play up - so had the gait analysis and I over pronate, so picked up some Asics GT-2140 (recommended) and they are great! Just signed up for a half marathon today in Ipswich (Aug 30th - day after my birthday) and got another one in October. Only done one before, so hoping this motivates me to get back into it.

Hi, I think it really is a personal choice and is best to to be checked while running/ walking on a treadmill in a good sports shop.
My OH swears by Saucony Grid - he has a high arch and quite narrow feet whereas I have a high arch and wide feet and find Asics much better.
  • I went to a specialist running store and had a free gait analysis. They will suggest which type of shoes you need to have. I suggest you do the same so you know which running shoes would fit you the best. Having said that, Asics was the best for me.

Wow thanks for all the responses, all great! Ive got to say im not too suprised that know one recommended a Nike Plus trainer, ive lost confidence in my current trainers and need to get back into before it all catches up with me again.

I will get a Gait analysis and go from there! Is there another way of attaching the nike plus sensor to a trainer so i could still get all the same benifits but wear a decent trainer?

You can buy little pouches to put the sensor into, which attach to your laces. Try googling Nike + sensor pouch. When I bought mine, it was about £4.
