Nothing to say GC wise really other than - MrsM I hope your mum is ok. You are right in what you say, money in the bank is fine but health and happiness is more important. Thats why I stopped being so GC strict on myself- I still watch the pennies and try to save but my focus is on the bigger picture now.
    Anyway, hugs to you :grouphug:

Just been out for bread (38p), but came home with that plus 4 packs of 4 quarter pounders.....

The burgers were reduced from £1.99 down to £1 a pack, and (after being repacked into bags of 1 or 2) have nicely filled the freezer space I managed to make over the last couple of days -- at the start umpteenth attempt to make enough of a dent in there to be able to defrost them :rolleyes2

DS and I have burger and chips or mash every 3 or 4 weeks, so I should now have enough to see us through to the end of the year with a bit of luck :T (Depends on how often elder DS is home on leave)

Really need to do a full stock take of my freezers and cupboards, as I'm sure I'm getting to the point with a lot of things that I don't need to buy any more this year. It's certainly true for rice, dried penne/fusilli, stuffed pasta, spaghetti, custard powder, chicken supreme mix, oils, salmon fillets, pork gravy granules..........

And for non-GC items, it's also true for toilet rolls, washing up liquid, washing powder (which is supplemented with soap nuts anyway), kitchen bin bags, and kitchen foil.

    Hi everyone,

Just popped to MrT with DS2 whilst DH, DS1 and DD were at church parade. Bought some whoopsied lemon sole fillets for tonights tea. Half price at £1.49 for two, so I got 3 packs. Will have them with chips and green beans instead of our planned roast. Just had chef's salad for lunch - lettuce from garden, grated cheese, ham, avocado, sweetcorn and a dressing made from oil, mustard, red wine vinegar. Really lovely and the children (almost) ate it up without moaning!

Will only now need to get a couple of evening meals for Friday and the following Monday, fresh f&v and some packed lunch juice cartons and I should be done for June. Hopefully will just come in on target. Sig updated.

Good luck to everyone else on the challenge.

I have spent £25 more than I should have to be on target for my annual grocery budget after a bigger than anticipated visit to Mr S yesterday.

I bought my first ever whole chicken yesterday to roast then rubberise for OH. I bought a happy chicken as they just looked so much nicer than the cheaper ones. Also took advantage of some good BOGOFs on hair dye, frozen pizza, fish fingers and ice lollies. Saved about a tenner in all.

I also bought some baking ingredients I had run out of and didn't want to do without until the 26th but this will reduce my planned spend next month.

Only really need some fruit, milk and soup for chicken pie beween now and pay day on the 26th so should not need to spend more than £15 (we eat a lot of fruit).

Just dropping in with an update. Mr T order on Thursday not too bad, but I had to get a couple of extra items on Saturday. Tomorrow should be an NSD, I hope, in which case I will have got to the half way point of the month and spent 1p over half my budget: £110.01/£220. My spending diary is up to date too. Am feeling quite pleased with how it's going, but mustn't get complacent - I need to keep this up for the second half!

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

£11.87 spent on packed lunch stuff for a ski race today, and bread & milk, so not too bad.

I have used about half of my budget so far, so think I am on track.....I am trying to encourage a storecupboard challenge week this week.....so hoping to get through with only basics needed.

I picked a dozen strawberries from my garden this evening :j There is a bumper crop there, so hoping to get a reasonable amount of fruit over the next couple of weeks, as long as the birds don't get at it first

    Evening everyone

I've not updated for a littl while and have a few bread & milk buys to add, plus some corned beef today too. A total for the last few tops ups of £10.19. Sig updated

Also... :T Mr Ahortie had to do a call out tonight to an organic shop. He had to be there for colsing time and not before and they were getting rid of bread baked that day (normally they give anything left over to the local shelter but they don't collect on a Sunday?) and he came home with a gorgeous wholemeal loaf, a walnut loaf and panini :T

So I have £25.55 left of the budget to last until the 18th when my month starts again. It should turn out okay as we don't have anything particularly urgent left to buy :j

TheBees are keeping on track this month. Treated ourselves to a Chinese Take-Away last night but that's from a separate budget. :D

We've eaten more of our new potatoes from the garden and also started on the lettuces we've been growing too. :j

I'm constantly updating and reviewing the menu plan and am hoping to put off a food shop until Thursday. Can I manage 3 NSD's Mon, Tue, Wed?!:rotfl:

    Good Luck everyone.
