It's actually very similar to a job in that I:

    work 35+ hours per week
receive free accommodation, utilities, travel costs reimbursed and health/accident insurance
am paid an allowance for food/extras of about 230 euros per month
    1 year contract

Highly recommend it to anyone under 30 willing to go abroad and make a difference :)

So you get free digs and you get paid for 'food/extras'. So it's basically a job.

I see it that way too, that's why I posted it here- but legal status and official position is as an EU volunteer :) Also all the work is what you would expect from volunteering: for charities or to better the community.

Age 26, E-comms (basically customer service via email etc). £18k p/a.

This coming from somebody who tried 2 different uni. courses to find the subject that interested them just so that they could get a degree because they were sold the whole 'Go to Uni, get a better job' concept throughout their life by school and college.

Needless to say, it doesn't always work out that way. Now I'm earning the same amount as a friend who didn't finish his GCSEs.

Oh well.. I'm a full-time novelist in my spare time. Maybe that'll take off..
