Unfortuantely if X has already resigned then not a lot of joy there. If he is supporting others e.g. children he may get Income Support. It is always better to look for another job whilst still in work or if you are going to leave get sacked (even then I have heard cases of DWP, not allowing JSA because they felt the sacking was avoidable and the claimant deliberately got sacked).
Rachie, my sympathies, you seem to have taken a lot of abuse than seems unnecessary. Have you sat down and worked out different scenarios. Many people with children who work fulltime are better off working part-time. If your children are under-five your employer now has to consider an application for reduced hours. Look into your employment rights as a parent. The way to work all this out is to work out how much it costs you to work on a daily basis, take into acccount all travel costs, childcare costs, buying lunch when at work, cleaning costs (if you have some help) etc.0 -
Rachie, sorry I hit the wrong button. Working out your daily cost of getting to work and deducting this from how much you get paid and adding on any tax credits or benefits then decide how many days you have to work to ensure that you maintain your current lifestyle is what I was getting at. The entitledto website can help with benefit calculations. I hope you can find a way to spend more time with your children.
All you mean posters out there a few facts
Most lone parents (correct term) are caused by death or divorce
Most lone parents work
Young teenagers who get pregnant are often ignorant of the facts of life, have low self-esteem and/or are victims of peer pressure or are in such dire circumstances e.g.poverty or abuse that they see pregnancy as the only way out, they deserve our support and sympathy not our censure.
Children are our future and the looming pensions crisis is partly due to the fact that we are not having enough children to support our aging population, so all you single and childless tax payers who's tax revenues will pay for your old age?
Its Mothers day so be nice to all us mothers.0 -

Scarlett, I am a lone parent, I also work, get no benefits, have a good wage and my lone parenthood was caused by death, so I agree most people would not give up a loving relationship to bring up children on their own. However it is not worth having a go at people on a site, save your eforts for the newspapers who have tarred us all with this image in the first place. I have to agree with the others, this site is about money advise not scoring points, if you do not agree with someone's views then tell them why, keep to the point and then stop corresponsding with them, it only encourages more of the same.0

Should it really matter why there is only one parent? Surely the only thing that should matter is the children are cared for and given the rights that every other child should have0

I think people lose compassion with someone elses situation as soon as they start running down other people, we are all on this site for a reason and us single parents have a right to be here aswell as anybody else without being used as examples when someone wants to rant about someone having something they dont have :undecided0
