If you don't like nlite have a look at http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/ it will talk you through manual slipstreaming and various other mods including auto logon and unattended installations.
Don't worry if some of the screenshots refer to SP2, the technique is exactly the same for SP3.0 -
It's the standalone one that you'd use in corporate environment, rather than the home use one on Windows Update which is usually configured to only install what you need based on your update history. You'd need the complete one to use with nline or whatever you're using.
Ermmm... OK... bashes brain with a wet haddock.... which means that it's not really the right one for me. If I can't get the bog standard sp3 file safe somewhere, the sp3 iso is more correct since it's basically a disc image of the actaul disk you can ask them to send you through the post.
I'd ideally like to get to grips with nlite though because, as it was pointed out, I can keep my installation disk up to date on the fly.
Anyway, gotta go feed the cat (and me) and I'll be back later this evening.

For the drivers have a look at http://www.driverpacks.net/ You can ether make a stand alone drivers disc or you can integrated them into your slipstreamed installation.0

I've gone the same way as anewhope suggests, I downloaded the 300+Mb file.
I've saved it and used it several times to burn XP sp3 installation discs for various people.
It makes reinstalling much quicker.
I don't know if this is relevant but the standalone covers both Home and Professional, so you only need to download once.
Just ignore the corporate bit.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Here's another guide for anyone who's interested. Unlike most, this one was updated quite recently.0

OK... on the "thanks for downloading sp3" (iso) page it said that people who downloaded it also downloaded.... blah... and, thankfully one of the files was:-
WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe
This, I take it, is the file I'd need to slipstream with my XP sp2 using nlite?
So point nlite at the copy of sp2 that nlite made on my hard disk AND the file I'm currently downloading... AND...? All the updates in the windows directory?
Hmm... just realised why the download is slow - I chose a 3GB package from my ISP and the TWO GIGS I've grabbed over the last few days has kinda put me over the top - so my speed is limited. Normally I rarely reach 1GB even when I'm busy. Shame it doesn't roll over 'cos I'd have about a trillion gigs available.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. OK - I've given up on nlite.
Tried again this morning and it picked up the iso of SP2 that it made yesterday, (great), then it picked up the SP3 exe file that I listed a few posta above (great), then it unpacked the exe file into a temp directory (great)...
..then it froze solid. The only way I could break out was to power off the computer.(NOT so great). Twice.
So I'm off to try the other set of instructions and software.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
