how long does it take for csa complaints department to deal with my case

Options
Hi there my name is caroline
I am new to posting but have read so many pages on csa and how bad they have been with thousands of people just like me.
I recently put my frustration through in an email to complaints department and they said i may be entitled to compensation if the csa are of fault but so far they are trying to get out of it my case is for three children 10 13 14 and the case has been going on since 2002 and nothing i have phoned up lots and calls are registered but the complaints department said that not alot of notes had been written and the phone calls were not taped my x has never received any thing from them so they cannot get arrears from him and can only get it from when they get in touch with him soon ha ha a joke tehy said if they were to blame i could get compensation but it would take months for them to go through all information more time ha ha has anyone ever won a case for compensation with csa and do i get all monies owed i should have got of him or what anyone any ideas please thank you caroline

  • Hiya,
I've read in one of the other threads that some people have been awarded £50 via complaints. Seems a ridiculous figure.

I think you need to give a bit more detail in order to tailor your request so someone may be able to advise you, such as:

Is your ex paid in the UK?
Have you ever received child support from him via CSA or private arrangement?
Has an assessment been done on his earnings?
Have you considered involving your local MP?

I have lodged a formal complaint 3 weeks ago (via my local MP) and the CSA contacted me just last night to say they acknowledged the complaint and that they will get in touch with 15 working days/in writing. At least something is happening now, rather than being left helpless with some CSA twitt telling me they can do nothing for me.

    Good luck.

Hi, I recently contacted my MP as I was not receiving child maintenance payments for a long time, it took less than a month to receive an answer from CSA and I will soon start to get payments again (well hopefully), I was also awarded £100 as they should have done something as soon as my ex stopped the payments!

What is the reason that they have not made contact? Is it that they have failed to send out any forms, or is it that they have been unable to trace him? It makes a big difference.
  • Some good news I'd like to share with you all. (but still a long way to go, I suspect)

Further to my earlier post where I mentioned that I'd gone to my MP a few weeks ago....I just got off the phone with my very own person assigned to my case at the CSA! I have a name and contact phone number! WOW...I LOVE MY MP! His letter was addressed to the Chief Executive of the CSA, so apparently it is being taken very seriously, and demands some answers.

My ex left the country in August and has accrued £8 in arrears and basically lied to the CSA to avoid paying me anything.

My most recent request to the CSA was to leave my case open as ex is only on a temp contract in Germany, and can they PLEASE put a charge on his UK property to secure knowledge that his arrears will one day be paid - I WAS TOLD NO in April, hence my contact with my MP

I'm now told they are investigating this much further as it is 'complicated' and that the least they can do is put a charge on his property here in the UK.

They may even be able to keep the case open as he is only temporarily away for a 2 year contract!

So, in answer to the earlier question, it seems that once your MP gets involved, suddently the CSA sit up and take notice. Whether it will get us anywhere in the long run, is yet to be seen.

Finding this blog is a godsend, thank you everyone! PS, I've also gone the REMO route in Sept.08, so one way or the other, I'm hopeful one day I'll get support for my daughter.

    All that for 8 quid?
    8k maybe?
  • pd..yes 8K - an oversight on my part and not really worth the time in copying my quote, surely?

A gentle nudge that I made an error would suffice. I'm new to this concept of forums and feel that it seems 'cut and paste quotes' are used too often, and usually uneccessarily?

Many thanks for the correction, anyway.

    Kind regards :)

As you say, you are new to forums and as everyone has their own way of working I think that comment to pd was a little unfair.

That's actually 2 unpleasant comments you have made to 2 seperate members of regular contributors today and it's not nice to read. Perhaps you just need time to bed in to the way that forums work and have a bit courtesy and tolerance for others.:)

If the use of quoting is bugging you then perhaps forums aren't for you as there is ALOT of it goes on. This forum is very very busy so to make sure that your comment makes sense you have to quote as by the time you have typed, 3 people could have commented and your post just goes completely out of context.

Welcome to the forum btw :)
  • Apologies to Pd if my correction caused him/her offence. It was simply to thank them for correcting me, and confirm that I did indeed mean that my CSA challenge/dispute is over 8K rather than £8.

To correct Loopy, I haven't made any unpleasant comments to anyone, regular contributors or otherwise, on the contrary.

I am here for the same reason everyone else has come here and that is to find some advice and answers, and have been thrilled to get some positive suggestions and support from some people (regular and occaisional posters) For that I'm very thankful - and I admire those of you that have been doing this for so long, in particular I notice that Kelloggs has made some very supportive comments to others (and now me too, thxs K)

With regards to your comment comment, perhaps you are right and this particular 'support' forum isn't for me.

I put a complaint into the CSA in January 08, i had a reply after about a month with no real outcome.
My case has been open since March 2000 and i've had next to no payments in that time.
I wrote to my MP in February this year and within 3 months the case has been sorted, they secured monthly payments of his arrears and done a new assessment too, had my first payments last week. I also got a consolotory payment of £150.
The lady i was dealing with was lovely and kept me informed every 2 weeks.
  • Anniemf - Glad to hear your success story! Thanks for sharing that, it helps to know that sometimes things go right for PWC like us! Thanks. (God Bless our MP's!)

I've had several calls today from my CSA worker assigned to my ex-husbands debt and my particular case and to finish on a positive note, my CSA guy today was very positive about the work that the CSA are doing now, and told me that over £1 Billion in debt arrears had been collected this year alone. Wasn't sure I heard correct, so looked this up:

    How the CSA is Changing

Although it won’t have any effect on penalties, the CSA was taken over by the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission in November 2008. It’s worth noting that the collection of child support is becoming more effective. The CSA collected £1.1 billion in the year ending September 2008, benefiting over 750,000 children

    Unfortunately....
I believe it won't benefit me in the long run, as the 'DRS' (dirty rotten scoundrell) has moved abroad, but I'm happy if it gives those of you with NRP in the UK some hope, it should do, what with the last positive post. (Yes, I have a REMO in place, but have yet to hear of one REMO success story:(

    Kat :)
