I think PIN code doesnt really work either. PI Number would be about right, but never heard it used.

I used to do a bit of training for a bank when I worked there and would introduce the section of discussing cards, PINs etc by telling my trainees about a little pet hate of mine ... as I mentioned above.

I would go on to say that while it annoyed me it was something I frequently did and then when I realised i have done it I would be annoyed at myself for making such a daft error. :rotfl:

Cue much sniggering as throughout the lesson I would on numerous occasions say " .... PIN number ... "

    :rotfl:

well it was funny to me

You know what though mate, i've never seen any bank that issues a debit and credit card that look the same and until they do, i'll never buy the notion that people mistook the cards - they may be numpties yeah, but not mistakes. Debit cards have debit on them whereas credit do not. Quite simple really....

Who knows how it happens?
    Perhaps, they'd had a few ;)

come on mate, the main element of the terms are surrounding security and responsibility - if the ruddy user cannot tell the diff between 2 cards then to be honest, they aint responsible are they? :rotfl::rotfl:

Perhaps it's an illusion, but the slovenly use of words often seems to spread more quickly through the population than correct usage.

Mind you, when PINs were introduced, the banks and cc providers frequently used the expression "PIN number" in press releases and correspondence with customers, so it's hardly surprising the habit caught on.

Moggles matey - i'm not arguing with you, I respect and understand what you're saying but it gets to me when clumsiness gets reversed to a fault in the system or something daft!

i.e. if you can't memorise 2 PIN's you got issues LOL (whats wrong with like 4490 and 4491 - not hard to forget, not hard to remember either haha
