New car tax bandings

well what about me then? i have a 1.2 litre corsa R reg
wow, what a Gas guzzler! (sarcastic)
still I will have to pay the same price as ever because I am not rich enough to afford a 5 yo car
the reason why I am using it (90 miles a day) will be because we cannot afford a house in the area where I work, and dont get me started on public transport
this govt needs to realise that this new regulation is pants, only rewarding those who can actualy afford a 5 yo car
at least, fuel prices are frozen now... wont have to worry about losing out an extra 100 pounds a year to the govt
but hey, the French govt is making people pay lots of taxes for no results, denies that inflation exists, hence not having to re-index salaries for people to maintain their buying power!"Don't cry, Don't Raise your Eye

shelly wrote:My hubby has another argument for the new tax bandings. Yes our car is a gas guzzling 3.5 litre sports car BUT we bought it mostly for weekend fun. He argues why should he pay more tax for our car that is only on the road at weekends than someone with a smaller car that is on the roads everyday?? He thinks that car road tax should go on petrol/diesel. That way we all pay for what we use for the amount of time we are on the road.
He shouldn't and the whole system is daft. If they scrapped the lot and put the cost directly as a tax on fuel then those that use the roads most and have the bigger engines or smaller old inefficient ones would pay more.
In addition so would all those foreign drivers that currently
enjoy free motoring on our roads.
Comon sense really but economics seems to ignore that model0 -
I notice one car which qualifies for the new free tax is the Smart ForTwo Diesel. Unfortunately we cant get them in this country!0

You can get them, occasionally (try https://www.thesmartclub.co.uk for lots of useful links) but they are all LHD :rolleyes:Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

How are people being rewarded? Our 02 plate car tax has stayed the same but our 54 plate car tax has gone up.......if your theory is correct shouldn't they both have got cheaper?:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
My car misses out on saving £35 a year by 5g!!! GRRR!!!
So I'm saving a whopping £50 -
Shelly, i meant rewarded for having Green engines... That was the whole point of changing the bands."Don't cry, Don't Raise your Eye

Apparently a newer Ford Fiesta diesel road tax has come down from about £80 a year to £40 a year! :money:0

Hi. Picked this up on the DVLA web page. If you have a car previously taxed at £75 you can re. tax it at £40 and claim a refund for whole unexpired months on your old disc saving up to £35. I had taxed mine from 1st April so it looks like I'll save the full £35 hopefully. Don't think it's worth the trouble on other bands. Pete0

How do you work out your CO2 Emission Figure? I found a site that can let you input all the car details but its only for cars after 1997. My little Nova is about 20 years old.:j Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus :j0
