I use some supermarket own brand Milton style tablets. Leave it overnight in the sink with it full of water, and, lovely and clean the next morning.

Thanks to whoever started this thread!!! I have a white plastic sink and have used most of the various methods above, but last night decided at 9.30 to, well, clean the pipes too! (funny smell and odd gurgling sounds).

Normally I would have asked the odd job man down the road, but in my new money saving wisdom looked at the pipes and thought "I can do that". 3 hours later I managed to get it back together again!!!!! And I had a very sarcastic husband leaning over my shoulder NOT helping. The pipes, however, are glistening and shiny and theres not a leak in sight! (Yet).

Why do I have to pay £3.99 for a tub of Astonish from my hardware store? Think I might drive out of London to do my shopping in the futue. GRRRRR

Still at least £20 saved there! Think I'm nearly getting the hang of this money saving lark!
    Egg @ 3.9% until 1/7/06 = £1798
    MBNA @ 2.9% until 1/9/06 = £5314
    A & L @ 0.9% until 1/9/06 = £4743
    MBNA @ 0.9% until 1/9/06 = £8768

Debt free aim March 08 if not before

No smoking day Friday 31st March using hypnotherapy paid for by OH's work!!!
    Smoking? Did I smoke?

I use thick bleach (eg. domestos) and leave until the stains disappear.

Same here ... it works a treat:) Are there different white plastic sinks?

Admittedly it's strong, but I drizzle Domestos over the drainer part, let it run into the sink, where the dishcloths etc are waiting, and dilute it once the plugs in.

Unless teabags are left on it, which is about once a year, the sink's always white.

It's done every other day, unless there's no need ... but always once a week.

Not sure what my sink is made from, but it's a nightmare, sort of plastic, not expensive Corian, but looks like it. I've tried all sorts, vanish, bleach, even tried emery paper on it. It looks as if it's tea stained, but we rarely drink tea. :(

    even tried emery paper

Possibly not a good idea. I suspect you should avoid anything that might scratch the surface since that'll provide a 'key' for future staining.

The stains may be limescale , and a limescale remover used first and rinsed well before bleach may work

I finally got around to trying the biological washing powder suggestion. I had expected it to do a good job, but have to report that it didn't perform very well at all.

How do I clean a cream plastic draining board? The sink looks clean after bleach and scrubbing but the draining board still looks ingrained with black stuff. It has had neat bleach poured on and been scrubbed with a nail brush - it's clean but not cream!

Am trying biological washing powder next - any ideas? Stardrops didn't work its magic, nor did washing soda.
  • Ive got a cream sink and drainer too.....I'd much rather have stainless steel ,but hey ho!

The only thing that brought out the black marks on mine was limescale remover ( we live in a really hard water area).
