Just resurecting this thread for a quick question,

I Have been offered a high mileage volvo v70 2.4 diesel on almost 240,000 miles!

it a good price but is it worth it? it has full volvo service history, 23 stamps, recent cambelt change, what do you think?! steer clear or go for it?

The important question how much? If it's say around £1k could probably be worth it if it is running well. A new MOT on a car makes it worth in the region of £400-£500 before you start.

Cambelt being done is a big plus and gives you confidence that it has been looked after.

My friend at work just picked up an 06 plate Mondeo 2.0TDCI estate at auction for £3600.
Pah, I got my (admittedly 2004) MG ZT CDTI for £3100 with cruise, air con, all round electric windows, parking sensors, trip computer, magic windscreen wipers etc and 80k on the clock. £21k new, lost a shade under £18k in 6 years...!

Nothing wrong with high mileage (what would you define as high?) cars... if they've been maintained. As they say, cars dont get to 150k if they are unreliable.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

Younger than I was expecting but at the end of the day you will pay your money and take a chance. I might be tempted.

I just wanted to chip in here! Just sold the laguna as it decided that all its Frenchelectrics wanted to explode...at once! So bought a 2000 X plate 1.8 TDDi Focus Estate for £900. 188K on the clock. 1 owner (a local garage who used it to ferry people/parts). Runs like a dream, uses no oil, Ghia model so toys (all working) and if anything does go wrong it will cost peanuts! happy days!

I've got a Volvo 2.4 petrol S80. It's 9 years old, I've had it for 6 and just passed a paultry 150K miles! Spend on average a 100 quid for servicing when I remember to do it, missed a couple of years along the way...oopps! Anyway it's been bl**dy reliable and apart from the cambelt change at 90K miles, tyres and a new clutch fitted, I've spent very little on it. It's made of galvanised steel so there's been no corrosion. I would definately buy another Volvo.

ps This was a £25K ex-fleet car that I bought at an auction when it was 3 years old for £5,800!

2004 mondeo diesel. 150,000 miles ex lease. printed bills for.

    £1500 transmission (clutch? gearbox?)
    £1090 Exhaust (turbo)
    £300 Engine ( EGR valve)

    Lots of tyres and brakes,
    Total Bill £9000 including repairs & servicing & MOT's

Hoping everything has been replaced & my low usage keeps it reliable.

£1500 transmission in a Mondeo Diesel- Duel Mass Flywheel and Clutch replacement possibly? Big plus if so.
