New radio needed

My dad wants to buy a new radio.

It needs to be small/medium sized, portable and work on mains and batteries.

He was told today at our local shop that all his radios are going to become obsolete when 'digital comes in' - no idea about the vailidity of that statement.

He is prepared to pay for quality - say up to £100 - I would imagine that would get him a decent radio - he is not looking for a budget £10 radio - in other words.

Does anyone have any suggestions/links?

Thanks in advance...

A Pure One may fit the bill, its DAB and FM, mains/battery and can be fitted with a rechargeable 'ChargePak'.
I have one and use it daily.

I'll top that with an RCA AR88.

Have looked these up on Kelkoo - there seems to be a lot of difference in price on the Elite Model - is there any reason for this?

    Yes - the capitalist system.

If you have decided on a specific model of anything the cheapest way to get it is to find the cheapest supplier that you think you can trust to actually ship it and hope they are still in business 12 months down the line should it fail and need replacing.

The AR88 was a receiver only. It was used as ballast in submarines during WW2 (at least it they weigh enough to have been used for that).

How 'bout a Pure ONE Mini? Argos are selling the black one (Cat. № 500/5419) for £25.99.

Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
