Totally agree Soolin - that is what immediately had my back up. Exact quote from very first email:

Would you be able to take three separate payments and call it £1200? That really is the only way I could do it. I am disabled and unable to work at present as I am in a wheelchair. At the moment I am writing to you from a hospital bed and this would be such a treat to look forward to. Jane x

I would insist on one payment.

I think the paypal fee would be more, here is the fee information from paypals site.

    Just found it on paypal

    Monthly salesPrice per transaction£0.00 GBP - £1,500.00 GBP3.4% + £0.20 GBP£1,500.01 GBP - £6,000.00 GBP2.9% + £0.20 GBP£6,000.01 GBP - £15,000.00 GBP2.4% + £0.20 GBP£15,000.01 GBP - £55,000.00 GBP1.9% + £0.20 GBPabove £55,000.00 GBP* 1.4% + £0.20 GBP

I am currently paying the 3.4% +.20p as im only a private seller with low sales.

No seller protection means no sale. Not that they couldn't scam you several other ways.

    I would reply back with....

"Of course I can take 3 seperate payments so long as they are paid into my bank account by bank transfer"

See what they come back with :D

Sounds off to me, would insist on one payment, do mention you don't mind waiting while they consolidate funds etc if needed.

    Walk away.
No compromise, no second chance. The rat has been smelt.

In simple terms, if they send three payments - £750 + £500 + £50, you can bet your hairy friends that there will be an INR claim or chargeback claim on the two larger sums. They are treated as 3 separate sales.
It's a very old scam, and it's specifically why it negates any seller protection that paypal offer.

If they were going to try to scam you like that, it's pretty certain that they'll have other tricks up their sleeve. The old "oh pity me, I'm disabled, in hospital, on benefits etc" really doesn't wash. It's emotional blackmail to lure you into a scam.

Hang on though.... three payments..... ebay won't let you do that, so are they going to send it as a personal payment? If so then happy days- no fees, no comeback surely??
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p
