Immigration Threads on this board (house prices debate)

Is there a moderator that could take the time to explain why threads and posts about immigration are tolerated on the House Prices, the Economy and Recession board?

Immigration is primarily a political topic and so, presumably should be moved (to The Arms?) along with all those posts about MP's expenses. Presumably there were a few complaints about the threads that became about immigration.

Actually, having just looked at the majority of threads on the first page, there aren't that many inherently outright immigration racist ones?

However, in times of recession, each country chooses to be nationalistic and inward looking.

Board guides do not read every thread, sometimes when they morph, we move them or leave them as they have been entrenched on here.

If you would like a thread moved for a specific reason, you can email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com or PM a board guide with a reason and it will be done.

I was after a more specific answer from a moderator if possible. As you have made clear in the past, you are a board guide.

I suppose it's possible that 286 posts over several days, mostly entirely OT, of heated debate can occur on the Man Sleeping Rough thread (link) without a single post being reported to abuse but I doubt it.

Why are threads about MP's expenses more OT than those about immigration when both appear on the face of things to be political subjects.

Not on a privately owned bulletin board with clear guidelines about what is on and off topic!

Gen, I think without the off topic divertions on this board it would have always been a worse place.
Why is it we mourn NDG's departure? Why did so many of us want you to keep in touch when you'd left UK? Why did a recent house purchaser amoung STRs send me the details of their new place? Why did Elsewhere start?

Its all because of OT sub conversations. I find the immigration stuff boring, and tasteless, but there is a simple ay to resolve it. I'd also say the Sleeping Rough conversation was extremely interesting in many ways....

Agree, LIR - I have learnt a tremendous amount on MSE. There are so many varied interests and expertise on so many different things. The thing that upsets me now is the constant way threads turn into onslaughts about sock puppets.

It seems that the DD did pm Misskool in some emotional way, and perhaps that wasn't wise. Nevertheless (and I am sure that DD will be reading these posts), I will miss him, and feel the Board will be the lesser for his loss.

That seems to have died down a little.

I'm sadder about the lack of traffic and the good contributers who simply got bored of the carping and visciousness between individuals or groups of ''bears'' and ''bulls'' (I notice for example a certain group of people who thank each other frequently never thank my posts even when I'm supporting their opinion!)

The board is poorer for its lack of diversity of opinion and smaller numbers of regular contributers now.

I appreciate that would be a sensitive topic for you Gen, you being an immigrant and all icon7.gif

I prefered it when topics weren't moved, but the immigration ones, started by the same people over and over again are particularly boring.
That said, the existance of the BNP is the only reason I will vote in the European elections next week - at least a vote for anyone else may help keep them out.

Yes, great pity. I thanked dervish for something the other day, as I felt it was deserved. Hope she doesn't feel slightly grubby for the thanks!

Well in the terms of MSE's location for most posters at least I'm an emmigrant not an immigrant.
