You can have Sky without a landline but they will charge you about £20 extra. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Can I ask how to go about it without a landline. My daughter has no landline & doesn't have a computer so doesn't need broadband. However, when she enquired about Sky, she was told that she had to pay BT £129 to set up a landline to access Sky customer services. Is she able to get Sky without this?:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

Read the above thread. You can have Sky without a BT line but they will charge you about £20 extra to opt out of this.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
You need to have your sky box connected to a working landline for the first 12 months of your contract, so if you are outwith 12 months it shouldn't be a problem unless you are multiroom customer and both boxes need to be connected to a phone line at all times0

Her daughter is not a current Sky customer. The contract specifies 12 months connection to a working BT line, but you can opt out of this by paying an extra £20 odd for the install. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
does it cost anything when you have it connected??
i presume it makes calls from it every so often. so do you get charged for this?0 -
It attempts to call back every night but its a freephone number. However, Sky don't get upset if they don't hear from it unless you have multiroom (so they know both boxes are at same address). Mine has been unplugged since day 1 as I just told the engineer to leave the extension loose as 'it was going under the floorboards when I redecorate';)0

so when i get sky i can just unplug it??? and have no problems??0

Stricktly Sky could insist you reconnect it but the reality is that as long as you don't have multi-room they are not bothered and are unlikely to bother you. You lose no functionality and there is no benefit to keeping it connected except for ordering Box Office or using the interactive services like viewing you bill (available online anyway). I just keep an extension handy to plug it in if needed.0
