Giving up selling on Ebay for now....

I've had a couple of months of idiot buyers after years of no problems at all - and I've had it with the stress.
I'm a private seller just getting rid of accumulated bits and bobs and recently I've had several 0 and low feedback buyers not paying for their items, not communicating in any way, asking if I'll wait ages for payment, almost demanding that I accept cheques etc. etc.
So, I'm having a break. Is this silly season I wonder? Is anyone else having more problems than usual??

Nope, I don't think it's you. Since the 'no feedback' rule for sellers has been introduced, it's pretty easy for scammers now to abuse the system.

I don't use eBay at all any more.

AND the last payment I was waiting for (after 9 days) is another wretched eCheque! Which won't clear (if it ever does!) until June 4th.
I'm really hacked off with PayPal for not even giving you the option to refuse these silly things.
    Instant payment my bum!
Sorry for the rant folks! :o

I've stopped selling on eBay now, as since the change in feedback policy, buyers think that they can demand the Earth, otherwise the seller gets negative feedback whether they deserve it or not!

Plus, I've seemed to have more buyers trying it on and saying that they haven't received a particular item. Luckily, I don't send many parcels so I always get a proof of postage. Funny how the item mysteriously appears in their letterbox, after you've e-mailed a copy of the proof of postage

Coupled with the obscene charges for using Paypal, I've got to the point now where I either car boot my stuff or give it to a charity shop!

If other sellers are leaving ebay it explains why some of my [STRIKE]rubbish[/STRIKE] excellent items are selling! No competitors means I seem to be getting more sales, so every cloud does have a silver lining.

My son (through me as he isn't quite old enough to have his own ebay account) has almost sold enough junk he found when he had a good turn out to fund a new PS3.

Seems like the more I list, the more sales stay... exactly the same. Dropping, even. Time for a re-think.

I thought you have moved the majority of your stuff to ebid, How is that working out? Or have i muddled you with another regular?

I knew my brain wouldn't let me down. 15th october on the ebid thread you mentioned
Just sold my sixth item on Ebid.net, in the space of about a month. It might not sound great, but I've got less than a quarter listed there compared to my ebay listings. So multiply it by 4 or 5 and... it's actually quite respectable compared to my Ebay sales.

I'm planning on sticking with Ebay over the seasonal period, taking them for any Christmas sales I can get, then at the end of January working out that, per hour put in, I've been making less than minimum wage... (Highly probable). Then I'll dump 'em, close the store and focus my attention on Ebid.net, Etsy, Amazon etc. Maybe ten Ebay auctions a month with a ton of flyers and fridge magnets for Ebid.net in each package. WTH, maybe a free Ebid mug as well

I would be interested in your experience of ebid as i seem to be mentioning it on threads at least once a day now.

I know the feeling, I am currently clearing out my games collection and use buy it nows, I have got a few with 0 feeback who haven't paid but manged to click the buy it now!

As for fees etc, it seems the more people look on ebay so I get more, so ebay may charge more but I get more in total.

As for feedback extortion, ebay take it very seriously. If a buyer trys the "give me a discount or a will give you negative feedback" line (or similar) then get it reported.

As a buyer and seller I do believe the no negatives form sellers does actually do more good than bad. It is purely from the buying side of things, in the past I had 2 transactions I would have loved to leave a negative for but couldn't as I would have got one back despite me paying quickly etc. Now if I wasn't happy with a tranaction and the seller wasn't helpful i would have no hesitation in giving them a negative.

The feedback is now bascially to judge the sellers and means not much to buyer, as a seller I can either leave a nice comment, say nothing or file a none payment case, what more do you need as a seller?
