just an idea.
Proof of delivery is the only thing that counts. Good feedback, DNA sample, photo of item being handed over signed by the Queen....forget it - nothing but proof of delivery will do.My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Are we talking motor bike here? In that case you never even needed to offer paypal as motor vehicles and sub groups are excluded from ebay requirements to use it.
However if you did offer it then it would be difficult now to refund and say you have chnaged your mind. You do noeed to accept though that you have no way at all now of defending a paypal chargeback.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Maybe for a tenner but for £1k? Not on your life. Bank transfer is a good way of doing this?0

I think changing the method of payment is too late now - they guy has paid. I'd print out two copies of the listing, each of you sign both and each of you keep one. Write on it something along the lines of "received in full working order from Alison999, paid £1,000 in full and final settlement by Mr Buyer". It's the best you can do, I think.
Then, if there was a charge back you'd have the proof you needed to go to the Small Claims Court and the Police0 -
Definitely refund the paypal payment & insist on cash or bank transfer. Why leave yourself open to the risk? Paypal will not accept anything other than proof of delivery.0

I do worry about the lack of understanding of how paypal and ebay work. Paypal is safe as long as you know how to use it and when to step away and decide to sell elsewhere. Anyone that either a) suggests just refunding and insisting someone pays by a different means or b) accepts it and wants photos taken of item being collected or Her Mjesty the Queen swearing in a court of law that she saw the item colllected really needs to read up and understand how ebay and paypal work.
Can I please urge people not to just use ebay and paypal blindly without understanding even the most basic of rules. Some of the basic ones being:
a) on all categories except for motor and related categories (which is why this case is different) paypal must be offered and accepted. No ifs no buts if someone pays by paypal the seller takes it unless they can persuade (or bribe) the buyer to pay cash on colelction instead. If a seller refuses paypal then they can be negged by the buyer and a non performing seller complaint made.
b) paypal require proof of delivery to stop a paypal chargeback, there is no other 'proof' accepted so please stop with all the other suggestions.
Therefore if selling large items that need collection a seller must understand the risks before listing. Cheap items may be OK, scammers tend to prefer high end items so your old kitchen table is probably going to be OK, but by all means offer the buyer a discount if they will pay cash instead on collection (just don't put that in your listing).
Cars etc never offer paypal, take cash on collection only.
For high end 'scammable' items maybe consider selling elsewhere where paypal is not a requirement.
For those new to selling or who don't understand the rules please read the post on tips for new sellers:
