Question: Buyers picking up items so no pop

my o/h has sold a bike on ebay and the buyer has paid through paypal.

its a lot of money so im worried about being hit by a chargeback/reversal or whatever its called if the guy was to say he hasnt recieved the item.

obv. ill have no proof of purchase, i thought about asking hte buyer to sign something to say hes recieved it,

would this be ok or does anyone have any other ideas for me?

  • Paying by paypal + collection = baaad bad idea.

The piece of paper will be no use, paypal would take no notice of it. They only accept electronic proof.

Could you refund and convince the buyer to pay in cash?

The majority of people will pay cash on collection, but if they need to use funds from their paypal account, ask them to use the "Send Money" option and send it as a personal gift - no fees, and much lower risk of chargeback, and no chance of dodgy item not received claims.

On a bike sale you are not likely to have come to the attention of scammers though.

Refund their payment and ask them to pay cash on collection.

No way would I accept paypal on a £1k purchase! Cash only.

Unless you can afford to lose a £1k bike

Alternatively you can ask him to do a bank transfer.

If he reverses the payment, there will be nothing you can do about it. It's just not worth it.

  • What about getting the guy to click feedback on ebay as received item and happy etc while you are there? ie, he could use your pc?
