yes they should. However, unlike advised sales they didnt document the questions asked and the answer. So, they dont have much of a record. This is why they are asking you.

True. However, this is a hangover from the endowment days where its estimated that 1 in 3 endowment complaints were try-it-on and PPI seems to be going the same way. Sometimes people do try to remember and get it wrong and then end up digging a hole for themselves.

Thanks for replying to this. I agree that lots of the complaints are just try it ons but in the same breathe I think where single premiums are concerned that no-one in their right mind would buy one knowing that they incur interest for the full term of the loan and only usually cover the first 5 years regardless of the length of the loan, when they actually could have got a cheaper option from elsewhere. Where credit cards are concerned i bet its hard. I can honestly say that with all our credit cards we NEVER had any PPI sold to us.

I went through all my mum's old accounts; loans, credit cards, store cards and HP agreements - No PPI on any one of them  and with the 8% interest some of these refunds are better than the savings accounts around nowadays :p

I know Mel. You almost feel you have been done. I do agree with dunstonh though and some people are just try it ons. My mum has no PPI on anything too and my son who is 22 has never had any credit although he is out of work at the moment and living off dole and an extra £15 for doing a normal full time working week. He loves it though and like he says its best him do this and work for his dole than get used to being at home and getting up late and staying up late etc.

Also myself and my hubby have only had a couple of complaints too. We have hit hard times though (had to put our shopping back at morrisons before now:o) but we had to just cut back.

Complained to Clydesdale on 1/04/09,then completed questionaire, then standard letter from them saying questionaire not received, phoned them and found questionaire received by them two weeks previous, now received another standard letter thanking me for my patience(lol)and after eight(8)weeks they are still investigating my complaint and they aim to either update me or have a response within another 4 weeks, now I am going onto FOS as either Clydesdale are stalling or snowed under...

Have now received final reply(settlement) of my claim, they do not recognise that PPI was mis-sold but as gesture of goodwill will make ex-gratia payment of £800 which is differance between early (PPI)settlement rebate of £500 and amount of PPI premiums that I would have paid if loan had continued to end of term(settled early). Not sure what to do as had paid £2000 in PPI before loan ended,do I take the money or go to FOS and hope for positive result(more money)with longer wait and chance of negative result.

    Hi there

Good start on an offer so well done there.:T

Did they say this was their final offer?

I was reading a thread the other day and someone was given an offer, but thought they would ask if they are prepared to higher the amount before agreeing, they were lucky that they did higher the amount.

However this may not work for everyone, but if they did not state its the final offer ask them in writing for ASAP if they are prepared to take the amount higher, if not then if that were me personally I would go to the FOS, but its entirely your decision, depends how happy you are with this offer.

Either way, good luck and well done.
