Good luck Gabyjane, don't worry about it. As I said before I kept my out of school for four years, I don't know what they missed in the four years but it hasn't held them back.
What about the time they miss when it suits the school/teachers? When my daughters school didn't have enough children for a French exchange they opened it up to the year below, suddenly three or four of them were missing a week at school to go to France. Well obviously it helped their French but they definitely missed everything else. Skiing trip another week off. A friend of mine is always amazed at how much time her daughter misses because she is good at sport. The school have no problem with her missing time for athletics meetings, hockey matches etc. Wonder why it is only family holidays that cause all this disruption.Sell £1500

Good point mumps! the head is very football fond shall we say and they often go on trips here there and everywhere in school time! I went into school this afternoon and heard him up the hall so went up to him and handed the dreaded letter! he said 'ooh what's this' and i replied 'a letter'! he said 'ohh sounds heavy' i said 'well that's for you to decide'!! i then saw him about 5 mins later while waiting for the kids and he waved it at me and said he would read before he left..eeek..hopefully tommorow i will have a reply..0

Well...sent the form in and forgot we had a trip to london booked too..it meant 3 days off school in dec this year and i hadn't thought it through at all and i told my friend and she said to just phone her in sick but im too honest so did a correct form and added to letter and other form!
Had a call off the school a little while back and it was to say the head has signed the forms as a yes!!:j i am so relieved and pleased! The recepitonist said it was all fine but he would like me to see the year 6 teacher wheh she starts as they would like to prob send a little homework for her to take which is fine, in my letter i did ask and they have a school, holiday bear whcih she would like to take so we will try and work that out!...Yay roll on Dec and Jan!!

Would you set work if the child was involved in an accident and off school? It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -

hardly a fair comparison!0 -
wish i was lucky,
ive booked an holiday for sept, put in the form for 5 days thinking it would be ok and they denied it,
they allow up to 10 days and they have a points system where 6pts and its denied,
they take into account of age/attendance/time of holiday
my son got 3pts which is the lowest possible under their system,
which should be knocked down to 1, you get -2 if parents cant get time off,
i didn't put this in the form as i didn't think it was needed,
he's got a very good attendance record, above the 93% needed,
basically they state up to 10 days, but really mean zero,
been waiting for a call all week.0 -
Korky i am sorry to hear about you responce form the school..you can see now why i was worried. Is there anything you can say to them to change it? like others have said what is the worst that can happen if you do go anyway? not encouraging time off even though i have asked for it as we to a certain extent have some restrictions but still worth a try in asking again?0

The worst that could happen is that if you have 10 sessions of unauthorised absence then you could get a penalty warning letter, and just one more day off could mean a fine. You would be under scrutiny to prove any genuine sickness for example by providing a copy of a prescription.0
