OH & I were working out costings for 2 different holidays (1 x 7 days and 1 x 5 days) within the UK (caravan) and it worked out to £1380:eek::eek::eek::eek: through the school holidays. This was at a basic Haven site.

It would work out cheaper to buy an old caravan and pay site fees and go when we like IYSWIM.

Luckily we have a friend who has a holiday home and gives it to us at "mate rates".

Maybe you could get a late deal to go abroad through the school holidays. If you were prepared to go today, I saw an offer for £99 for 7 nights SC in Spain.

This thread is getting a little heated.

Is your area off for 2 weeks PP? I know some areas do this. Mine are back on Monday.

A lot of people wo can't take holiday when they choose have agreed to contractual terms as such in return for a bigger salary and could pay the true cost in extra resource to the school to mitigate the effect on other kids.
Really? I honestly truly have never heard of this. When I worked you asked your line-manager f you could book x time off, some-time was a complete no-no anyway (such as easter or xmas if you worked in retail)or when a stock-take was due to take place. Other restrictions were you could only have 10 days between May 1st-Sept 30th etc. Assumming the hols you wanted fitted into the already mentioned criteria, then it was first come first served on the holiday board. Someone got there before you, tough as only 1 person at a time could be off at any given time.
Husband has booked a holiday, last week of school hols. Someone else is already off. At the time he booked that didn't matter a 3rd person worked on their team. That person was made redundant last week. So what happens now. Not fair to ask other person to change their plans they booked first, but that's the only week we can go that's in the school hols.

Actually after reading it all again i think some of you are out of order tbh, just becasue we can afford to go away and can't go when some of you think we should i get slated for it?? There are people with all different backgrounds etc on here and just because it is a money saving site means nothing..we are not rich by a long shot and as i have said in other posts i have more than one job as does dh so we work bleeding hard for our time away.
If i was such an uncaring mother and didn't give a toss about dd's welfare and education i wouldn't even ask on here would i. we would just send in the form and go..don't know why i bother on here some times..
Again we can onyl go at certain times and holidays are out so that's why i asked for advice.

    No but you did say:
and without sounding big headed the price of our cruise we are going on is not one many could afford tbh.

Which does rather imply that money isn't really an issue.

Peachyprice i was reffering to the part where barnaby bear quote:

'chav-kids whose parents didn't value education - was always a holiday to Disneyland or a cruise

this was just stating that we do not have a 'chav kid' and we do value education..lets face it what are chavs known as? people common as muck with not much money etc? so no i don't think they could afford our holiday...maybe they could i couldnt care less...what is the average holiday abroad now? do/can many people afford to go away? the fact is we work hard for our money and if we can afford to go on one what business is it for others to judge? i am not big headed and do not boast about money but it does annoy me when peole think you get it handed to you on a plate.

I'll probably get slated too for backing gabyjane up, but hey ho, i'm getting used to the general attitude on here and some peoples need to have a dig at everyone. Just so as you don't think i'm biased, I am her sister and just saw this post as I was checking one of mine.

Putting aside the term time holiday as frankly some of you seemed to have gone past that now and moved on to the belief that my sister "is loaded". Even if she is, is that any of your business? Personally I know both her and her partner work blo*dy hard for their money, so why shouldn't they spend it on whatever they like?

As she's pointed out several times (and some of you are choosing to ignore) the issue is NOT money, it is down to when they can go. Try reading a post properly before having yet another go.

Jesus, earlier in the week I had planned to go on this holiday with them, i'm glad I didn't ask for advice on here as probably would have got told off for having the audacity to even think of an (expensive) holiday.
