I have explained in the past that with catalogues, they can lie dormant and when you re-use them they do a soft search.... therefore, if you have a catalogue with SDG and re-apply for another, they may do just a soft search (i.e. enquiry - not search) and use your current status as main scoring method.....
In fact, SDG do operate this way, others do not. So if you just recently opened SDG (I think within a month) if you reapply, you will get a decline or refer. Always best to wait at least 2 - 3 months between applying if you want a guaranteed yes!
Catalogues are different to credit cards, none moreso than the fact they score differently and restrict large orders and evaluate at the time of order so say you had a £3k limit and ordered 2 x Plasma's - chances are it'd be rejected.
Your CC wouldn't work that way, one large payment could be legit.....2010 - year of the troll
