  • If you're now on the electoral register then apply to one of the other JD Williams branded books like fashion World..... you can log-in to any from one account number. May also be an idea to apply for Vanquis - they should accept you if you have no credit, as such.....

Do you have a full bank account and chq card? If so, i'd look at getting a CC from your bank before a catalogue..... helps your credit file, even if you don't use the card much.

Just to clarify, I have an account number with JD Williams but they would not open an account for me....so if I use this account number and login to the FashionWorld site do I then click on apply for account or request catalogue?

no, you apply as if you've not got an account but you never said you'd already applied and been declined - that is why you have an a/c number I assume? i.e. you got the £125 limit and that disappeared at the next log-in?

If so dont bother going for fashion world until at least 3 months have passed but to be fair, some people have opened several on the same day!.....

Sod it, give it a go and see what happens..... you have to log out and back in again after the initial £125 credit offer to see if it remains or has been declined.

excuse me for being stupid..but just to make sure I am right do i log in with the exisiting account number and re-apply on the different site or try a new application as if i had never been on the JD williams one 3 weeks ago and got declined? Thanks again

No you would act as though you never seen them before in your life - i.e. brand new to site.

But dont do it - not if only 3wk ago. wait a month or so..... it will decline you.

    Hi,
Hubby's balance with Next has reduced to £0.00. After reading this thread I thought it was a technical glitch, so placed our order anyway. The screen said that the order had gone through fine and confirmation email was sent.
He left for work about 5 mins ago, and Next have just called to speak to him, and because they couldn't they are sending a letter in the post!!
Do you think they have withdrawn his credit account??
He didn't go over his limit and we have paid on time!!
    Any ideas ?

By the way, the new directory was delivered today.

Our limit has been showing as £0.00. So made an order and received the confirmation etc.

Phone rang 10 minutes later but we missed it, so I rang back. Apparently our credit limit has been reduced, and the order we placed had thrown us over the limit.

How irritating, we've paid on time, in full, and are £20 in credit due to registering a gift card too.

Pity they can't update their system as quick as they phone you!

I have an issue with Next Directory although it's my own fault anyway. I got my account into £300 of arrears and after 4 months cleared all of it. Since almost 9 months has passed, I rang up to ask if I could place order with my debit card. They rang me back and said no I could only buy or order in store.
Now I know it's my own fault for getting into arrears but I lost my job. I spend lots of our hard earned cash in Next. Having been a faultless customer for over 3 years prior to the arrears, I feel really miffed. I mean I didn't expect them to give me credit facilities but wouldn't you think they would let me pay by debit card when I order?
Sorry really needed to get that off my chest.

Well we have had a letter from NEXT.
They have reduced Hubby's credit limit to £175 from £300.
They said that something had come to light on his credit file, I don't know what as it is slightly better now then when he opened the account!!
I think they make stuff up as the go along!!

My limit with Next was reduced from £3600 to £1500. It seems to oscillate between these two figures every month
  • I honestly think these companies pull names out of a hat when deciding what to do. I have seen on this forum people with CCJs and many defaults getting credit cards and multiple catalogue accounts, and people with near perfect records being declined.

I have 1 default from 3 years ago and can only get a Capital One card (which I had gotten after paying off their arrears and reapplying) and a JD Williams account. Vanquis and Freemans told me to sod off.

    It's all so strange!!
