Personally, I would say the iTouch is the better one, just because it has so many apps and things to keep you amused when youre bored of music/videos (which is the only reason I bought myself one), but it is over £85 more expensive than the Sony. In answer to your 2nd question, yes, 3rd party docks are available.

the sony is better if you just want to play music. (smaller, lighter, longer battery life)

the ipod is better if you want a gadget to play about with. (lots of apps to play about with)

The iPod Touch is a seriously impressive piece of kit.

Of a lazy morning, I'll lie in bed and check my emails on mine, and maybe watch some BBC iPlayer.

It costs quite a bit more than the Sony though.

With the i pod touch do you have to buy music from itunes or can you buy it from somewhere like amazon?

You can *buy* music elswhere then import it into iTunes, yes.

Some people think that buying it off iTunes is easier than obtaining it yourself, thus they will willingly pay the premium iTunes charges.

I would hardly say iTunes charges a premium. Some things are more expensive there, but that's only because the record companies charge iTunes more for it than they charge anyone else. iTunes has a much larger selection though.

Regardless, it's pretty easy to shop around.

If you can afford it go for the iTouch, its so much more than just an mp3 player! All the apps etc are great fun, but there are just nice little touches that make it great. For example i went to my mates house for a bbq at the weekend and he was using his iTouch to control his computer from outside like a remote control, very cool!
