I see what your saying and for some the temptation might be there but I just couldn't do it out of principle, nor would I want to deal with an EA who would accept it.

Agreed - I wouldn't feel comfortable either, on principle or in practice. Obviously commission is always an issue but it depends how it's done - we are planning to go with our potential vendors' EA as they might try harder as they will get 2 lots of commission if they sell ours, so like you it's using it to our advantage in an above board way - the whole backhander thing seems so seedy (I suspect I am pretty naive too though!)

I must stress that there was nothing seedy about what I did - it was communicated in writing and the agency itself agreed.

The problem with EA's is that most of them are young enough to have worked through nothing but an unprecedented boom in property.

That is what I meant! Thanks.

    Sorry to hear that ocallo?

How much was your original asking price ocallo and how much have you dropped it to now? What part of the country - I hear and read that different parts of the country are now very variable in terms of sales and prices houses are selling for.

The most important thing is that you drive down the price of the house you are looking to move to by a similar amount if you get a buyer for yours.

Have you told your EA that you are emmigrating? Do you tell the people who come and view?

To be blunt, if you know someone is emmigrating then you know that they have a deadline some point in the future when they must sell so, as a buyer, you just sit back and wait for the asking price to drop.. and drop... and drop.

If I were you I would make sure I told none of the viewers that I was emmigrating and I would either change EAs or mention to the current one that the emmigration is now off - say the job offer has been cancelled or something like that.

Perhaps this will give you more luck?

Out of interest, where are you emmigrating to and for what reasons? Work, quality of life? Fed up with the UK? I am curious as to where and why Brits emmigrate as I am considering it myself.

A separate thread or a pm on the subject would be more appropriate than sending this thread off on another tangent..................
  • If you are trying to sell your house, heres what you should do:

If you do not, it's going to be another 10% before xmas. You have been warned.

A tad pedantic, some might say an*l.

A few lines as part of ocalllo's next post would not hurt anyone.

I read somewhere last week that there are 1.1 million houses on the market and another 700,000 expected to come on the market in the coming months but that less than 5% of these will sell in a 12 month period - WOW!

Several EAs in my home town have told me not to buy yet as they believe prices are 20% over-valued locally.
