I've just come back from Haven Doniford after our 4th weekend away. Some have been Sun holidays & some last minute offers booked directly with Haven. We've always had the most basic accomodation as far as I know & it has always been clean & tidy.
The chalets are basic, not always with a shower, & the kitchens aren't always that well equipped (take your own tin opener!) but we just use it as a base to explore the beautiful area around the park.
I've always found the majority of the staff helpful & any problems I've had have been sorted out quickly - our TV broke & it was replaced within the hour, as was a light bulb that had tripped the electricity.
The pool is basic but clean & never seems to get too full (even during half term). Thankfully the kids don't want to see the entertainment, so I can't comment on the bars, but I've never heard any drunk, rowdies...:rotfl:
I don't like the charging for everything (bouncy castle etc.) & I think the food is expensive, but each time we've eaten there the food has been good.
My kids nag me each time to buy a caravan there (as it's that simple ) & we all hate leaving!& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

We have just returned from a long hot, weekend from Hafan-y-Mor booked via the sun holiday and it was fantastic. Obviously the hot weather helped but we had luxury, clean accomodation, no noisey neighbours, pool was clean and great fun. I can take or leave the evening entertainment to be honest- but children enjoy it so we go along. Didn't come accross any rude or chavvy types, no gangs of teenagers and i can honestly say i never heard anyone swearing at their children, wasnt disturbed at night and found all the staff helpfull amd accomodating- for what we paid it was great. All the outdoor area was clean as well- so a thumbs up from me and will be returning- especially if get luxury accomodation for Sun prices !!!

We've just come back from Haven Perran Sands, staying in a 4-man yurt. We had a last minute deal (169 for 4 nights) which I feel was good value. I wouldn't have wanted to pay more though.
The yurt was great - spacious, with comfortable furniture and in a fantastic setting. We had a picnic table and stone bbq, both of which really enhanced our stay.
The weather was scorching and we unlaced part of the wall of the yurt to let air through, which worked well (rabbits and birds looking in at us...)
We were next to the campsite and there was a large adventure playground nearby. The sand dunes were marvellous for DS to explore too.
There is access to the beach, but we only went there once as it is a long and extremely steep walk.
The shower blocks were clean and well lit at night. Lots of hot water too which was lovely.
The camp itself was very quiet as we were out of season, however we used it as a base to explore and it was fine for that.
We had a go on the aqua jets and the inflatable sessions in the camp pool and they were great fun. The lifeguard running the sessions was a mine of information about what to do in the area and was really friendly and helpful.
I can't comment on the evening entertainment as we didn't go to any of the shows.
Perranporth is the next beach/town along from Perran Sands and was an absolute jewel of a find! :jThe beach is fantastic with lots of sand, lots of rock pools, including one shaped like a swimming pool in the huge rock in the middle of the beach, and a great pub with live music and good food on the beach itself (The Watering Hole). A taxi to the beach from Perran Sands was 5 pounds so we could have a couple of bevvies after an afternoon building sandcastles, spotting crabs in the rockpools and trying to bodyboard.....sand under toes and an ice cold pint of Rattler cider while watching the sun go down over the sea....oooh it was totally heaven.
There is a cliff path walk from Perran Sands to Perranporth, but with DS tendency just to run off, we decided not to try it.
Basically we went out in the mornings sightseeing, then spent the afternoons and evenings on Perranporth beach.
Healey's cider farm is about 10 mins drive from Perran Sands and that was a cheapish morning out apart from all the cider we bought :rotfl:.
Newquay is only 20 mins drive away and we enjoyed the Blue Reef Aquarium there.
My only complaint about Perran Sands is that the staff in reception were unhelpful to the point of rudeness. They didn't want to give out information about anything that's not on site and seemed to keep people waiting for the sake of it. I think that the Reception motto is, "We are miserable and if we can annoy you and make your life difficult then we will..."
We had a great holiday but would not have wanted to rely only on the camp for entertainment. I'd highly recommend the Haven camp site as a base for exploring South Cornwall.0 -
Hello.
Omg i'm so glad i don't stay in Haven camps anymore! However, from what I can remember as a younger child they weren't too bad! Seems to have changed.
We now stay with John Fowler holidays - in Looe, Cornwall , but they have many camps in devon and cornwall. They're great! never had any problems with them and the swimming pool is massive (indoor and outdoor) anf evening entertainment is also of a very high quality!
well worth checking out!0 -
I have been to Setton Sands near Edinburgh and found that park to be very limited, the entertainment room is fairly small, but then so is the park. There wasn't much to do there but we mostly used it as a place to sleep and for the night time entertainment, during the day we went out and about and there was plenlty of places to go and see from Edinburgh and the surrounding areas. We ended up buying a family pass to Heritage Sites which got you free entry into all the local castles including Edinburgh castle and it worked out cheaper than paying for the whole family to visit the Castle.
But we normally go to the Haven in Ayr, which I really enjoy. There is plenty to do on the park as well as plenty to do off park. The pool in Ayr is great as it is built on several levels with little slides connecting them all and then two big slides going from top to bottom. There is also go carts, crazy golf and then the usual arcade to drain your money. But when we goto Ayr we normally spend two days on the park and the rest of the days off the park, then spend the evenings watching the entertainment which I have alsways found to be good. We normally get the half price deal, which is during Scottish half term and a week before English half term and have always found the place to be very good value for money.
But yes to answer the original question Haven do have a lot of hidden costs and ways of making you spend money, which is probably why they offer 'cheap' deals.0
