We were really really worried and decided to cut our losses and forfeit the holiday. We still wanted to stay in the area so we looked up pine lodges and google came up with a few private lodges in Hafan-y-Mor!
The Gold Chalets looked really grim. There were no nets and you could see how poorly maintained they were when walking past to the restaurant. The local staff were very friendly, the foreign workers quite cold and offish.
The park was generally poorly maintained and dirty. We were so glad that we were using the lodge as a base only.
The state of the park was summed up to a tee by the indifference and contempt of a receptionist. I was queuing to return the key to the desk at the end of the holiday (you pick up and deposit the keys at the main desk for private lodges). There was one chap in front of me who had arrived that morning being served. He reeled off a list of about 10 faults with his chalet which the receptionist duly noted and said would be fixed. He walked off and I waited to be called over. The receptionist picked up the phone to maintenance and told them the 10 faults but to only repair 2 of the items!Unless it is a private lodge/caravan I would never stay at a Haven.
Many years ago we went to one of their parks, my mum phoned and asked to get a message to me because my dad had been admitted to hospital and was dying. They said they couldnt get a message to our caravan!
This was obviously pre mobiles, when I phoned mum that night she was frantic, having just returned home to await our call......upon checking out they just said "oh Well"........
never again - obviously have NOT improved one bit !!0 -

Aw that is AWFUL customer service obviously they knew the emergency and it would not have been hard to get a message to a caravan they know exactly who is in what caravan. just goes to show where they need to improve.:male: 2 Beautiful Boys :male::beer: Not uptomyeyes anymore thanx MSE & friends for all your help:beer:0 -
We just returned from Haven Marton Mere on Friday - never again!
We had the option of checking-in from 2.30, but arrived at 3.30. Not clearly sign posted as where to check-in, but eventually found a make-shift check-in desk at the Showbar. There was a sea of bodies waiting to check-in, we got our keys straight away (as we were prestige ), but I dread to think how long these other families had to wait to check-in - and they were the ones who were early to get in a queue, apparantly they had to wait until 4pm.
We opted for a Prestige Caravan, what a joke! It had an LCD telly with built in Freeview - wow -that's the only difference I noticed from a standard caravan. OH kept asking me if we'd got the wrong caravan.
There was no linen provided or beds made up, as stated in our conformation, so had to go back to reception. Snooty receptionist asked if I'd upgraded to prestige at a later date, no it had been booked from the startn - had it in black & white. She told me someone would be out to do it asap and that we didn't have to wait in for them. I said we weren't unpacked yet, as not really anywhere to put anything away in bedrooms until beds were made. After 2hrs of waiting I rang Guest Services to ask why no one had been yet, was told again someone would be out asap, was about to ring again at 6pm, when someone finally turned up at 6.30.
Also had food items left by the previous occupants which our DD found in the cupboard. The surfaces where thick with dust, I had to give them all a wipe.
It was a cheapish break, but never again.2017 - no clutter to be seen challenge: 72/2017
Weight loss the old style way challenge - 7/14lbs :j0 -

ooohh we took our touring van there a few years ago. I likened it to being on a field with the entire guest list for a year of the Jeremy Kyle show. It was grim, noise on the fields all night, drunken teenagers, shouting, swearing etc
Luckily we had only booked for 2 nights.0 -

I thought I'd be polite and not mention the animals/residents.:D Luckily we were in the area near the beach and only had to run the gauntlet of swearing and spitting a few times when we couldn't be bothered to cook breakfast/dinner and used the on-site restaurant. The restaurant was like feeding time at the zoo - "Daddy, why has that boy got 20 desserts on his tray?" and "Daddy, why isn't that lady showing her boobies?" (Drunk 40+ year old woman in the restaurant topless, and she was hanging dahn sarf, not even nice boobies to look at).
We used Hafan-y-Mor as a base to explore Snowdonia, but a large proportion of fellow holidaymakers arrive on a coach from the Northern cities and have no transport to cause mayhem anywhere except the park. The man without a signature.0 -
we went to haggerston castle last october half term with tesco vouchers - i would have been mighty cross if id paid full price for the break. the park was full, but v little to do except slot machines, we never got into the pool as it was always full and the girl on the desk said we would have to turn up an hour early to ensure we got into the next session.
we had a gold caravan which on first glance looked ok but when you looked closer was full of crumbs and mould.
never again'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -

LMAO
My parents used to have a static van down there and it used to be lovely all along that coast They gave it up when Dad became ill so we decided after not going for years to take the kids and go for a weekend, hence staying in Hafan-y-Mor. I couldnt believe the difference in the place, especially the people.
We actually went back and stayed on the private site close to the Haven camp thinking we had perhaps been harsh, we didnt last a night! We went out for the day and came back to find the 'delightful' children had turned off our electricity to the caravan (luckily we had little in the fridge), thrown food in through the skylights, been in and out of the awning and generally messing with the van.
A couple on the next pitch sympathised and told us that they had a season pass there so couldnt leave as all their money was tied up in the pitch, they said the whole place had gone so downhill with behaviour like that from the kids and parents who didnt care.0 -
OMG im going to Thorpe Park soon with my two children and myself (on our own for the first time ) after reading all these comments it has put me off totally . The caravans look lovely i hope you all have just been very unlucky in the sites you have been and its not ALL of them . I do hope the weather is nice so at least we can just play on the green if they isnt musch to do or see.
Anyone been to Thorpe Park (cleesthorpes ) ??0 -
We went to Haven in Ayr 2 years ago - it was a nightmare! They obviously spend all their money on their TV advertising because they don't spend it on the facilities. We had paid a lot of money for the week and when we arrived at our chalet with our then 5 year old and 6 month old I felt like crying. It was totally disgusting - a used baby wipe greeted us, there was knife scores down all the furniture, it stunk of urine, the lamp shades were hanging off everywhere, the place made us itch and the sofas were so bad I wouldn't have sat down for a week! My son was crying as we had just had a 5 hour journey to get there so my husband went to reception to see if they had alternative accommodation. The queue there was massive, all people complaining and itching!! I stayed in the car but upon inspection the alternative accommodation was just the same. Whilst my husband went to get our money back (which we did - we had taken cancellation insurance at time of booking) I phoned all the Premier Inns locally and eventually at 8pm after driving all day with 2 small children we arrived at "Buckingham Palace" - as my son called it! - a Premier Inn near Glasgow. :j Whilst there the advert for Haven came on telly and we all groaned! I can't comment on the facilities that were at Haven as we didn't wait to find out but if the cleanliness of the accommodation is anything to go by I'm glad we didn't!0
