My Audi TT problem

Hi
Could anyone advise me on the best course of action. Had my 1999 Audi TT for about 5yrs. In the last 3 yrs I have had to replace...the computer and the engine! Two massive jobs with huge bills so thought I would keep hold of it after spending so much on it. Now the gearbox has gone! Do I try and sell it as it is? Put more money into it fix it and sell it? or scrap it with the new scheme....? Car too nice to scrap though low mileage and doesnt look its age!!! Would appreciate some advice!

I'd repair the gearbox and sell it. They're still making strong money for their age.
  • fix it and sell it, audis are awful for reliability like vw, its just the marketing that says they are good

    get rid

Agreed on the VAG reliability hype.

Audi TT will still be worth more than the scrappage discount even if it is broken.
  • What exactly has 'gone' with the gearbox?

Gearboxes can be reconditioned, and second hand units may be purchased. Isn't the gearbox from the Golf R32?

Probably the diff, as they fail left, right and centre...

you could fix it anmd then get rid, but that means that you'll be starting over again with another car with more problems...

Is this a joke? I do hope thats not common on Audi TTs. I wonder what the nature of the engine failure was?

    Not all VAG are crap.

My 92 Golf Mk3 1800 still going strong, just had normal home maintenance, still on original clutch, coming up to 100k miles. No big money spent.

I had one as a company car.

First engine failure was at about 22,000 miles, took it into the Audi dealer and asked them to investigate a funny whirry rattly noise at about 3,000 revs. They said it's fine but to come back in two weeks, an hour later some pulley that controls the variable valve timing fell off. New cylinder head under warranty and from that point on it drank about a litre of oil a week.

Second failure was at 55,000 miles, a much simpler one, crank angle sensor stopped working.

Both times I was left stranded in the middle of a busy roundabout.

Other failures: coil packs: twice, instrument cluster replaced once due to faulty fuel gauge, went again but by this point I was sick of it getting fixed so just put up with it.

And after all that, it's not even proper 4WD because the engine is mounted the wrong way around :P

Not all VAG cars are crap, just the ones made after about 1998 or so.
