Getting 3 to go away.

I took a contract out with 3 a few years ago and towards the end of the contract, decided not to renew, sent them a letter and registered with O2. However, and I've heard 3 are notorious for this sort of thing, they ignored the letter and continued to charge me even though I'm not using my phone and being the chicken that I am, I didn't chase them up or harrass them with calls or anything. What can I do now? Are there any letter templates you can direct me to? Can I cancel it now seeing as it's technically halfway through another year of contracts? What would you recommend?

(Anything not involving phones preferred, I hate talking on the phone) :D

You have a copy of that letter you sent to Three, and proof of posting it? Very helpful if you do have those things..

Either way, send another letter to Three.. insist that they refund the money they have taken from your bank account against your wishes. Don't see why you need a template for that... Are you sure you haven't made use of the renewed Three contract at all? If only by leaving the phone turned on? That could drastically reduce your likelihood of getting a full refund.

I don't I'm afraid :( I was young and naive and had no idea that 3 are such b******s when you try to cancel a contract... I don't mind waiting until it runs out I guess but I'm getting really fed up with it.

I haven't used the contract at all, I turned the phone on once for about 15 minutes to look at some old text messages but never sent anything or made any calls.

If I sent them a letter now saying I want it cancelled at the date when the contract runs out, and kept sending one each month, would that work? I doubt I'd be able to argue with them to refund me 6 months' worth of money. What would happen if I cancelled my DD?

Anyone? Sorry, just feeling really agitated because they've taken out a DD and put me into unauthorised overdraft, which really grates on my nerves.

If you did not renew. And you took the phone out a few years ago.

You only have to give them 30 days now then. As you wont be in a longer contract

But if you ring 333 from your phone and go through the options to get to cancellations, before you speak with anybody they will tell you when you contract expires/ expired.

I definitely didn't renew, I didn't get any letters from them saying the contract was getting renewed or anything like that. The thing is, I didn't really pursue cancelling it any further as I had other things on my mind at the time (stupid, I know) but if you're definitely sure I only have to give them 30 days notice then that's great and you're very helpful
I don't really have access to the other phone anymore, never bothered with it, I think it's in a box somewhere.

By the way, would you say cancelling the DD is a good idea?

"other phone" If you have had 2 phones from 3 you will more than likely to have upgraded/renewed.

Or if you are just refereing to the "other phone" meaning your only 3 phone then you will have to call customer services. 08707 330 333 you will need the mobile phone number of for the 3 contact you are talking about. And then find out what if left on your contract.

I wouldnt cancel the DD as it will more than likely get handed over to a debt collection agency if you continue to not do anything about it.

However if you have got a long period left on a contract have a look the other 3 thread about getting out of your contract early.

If you don't close your account / end your contract, they will continue to take money from your bank. 18 months is the minimum contract, and if you don't contact them they will assume you are happy with the existing status quo. Call them today and get your contract ended, or write and keep a copy of the letter.
They will try to persuade you to stay with them, and they will offer you discounts and new handsets. You need to be clear that the reason that you are calling is to close your account.
You don't need a PAC, as you have another phone number already. So, don't accept a PAC - because if you don't use it, they will continue to bill you.
Be polite, they are only doing their job. When I ended my Three contract, it took three calls of half-an-hour each (but I was terminating it early).
    Good luck.

Thanks for your help, yeah I did mean that "the other phone" as in the 3 phone, I'm on o2 at the moment and only ever had one phone with them.

I had a look at that thread and it's not really relevant to what I'm looking for, my reason has nothing to do with them ending a promotion or anything, just annoyed with it.

Can anyone confirm that it's ok to give them 30 days notice and they'll accept it?

Cancel the DD now! - do you have online banking?

And then send them a letter recorded delivery reminding them that you cancelled 6 months ago and that they have been taking unauthorised funds out of your account.

For crying out loud don't pay them any more money! If they call you - tell them that the contact was terminated 6 months ago and that you'll be taking them to court for the money that they have unlawfully taken from you.
