am not saying that ER add you automatically, but in the past they sent me automatically, after I moved in, a form that I then filled in with my details.

Again, it could be that they send this forms automatically once a year and I was lucky to move in straight before they sent this forms.

This would happen if the previous tenant moved out and notifed them in advance, this way they know someone may be living there - thus they send it to the Occupier - it will not be addressed to you, this can only happen once you've sent off the forms.....

the forms I received in the past were all in fact sent to "the occupier"

Should that be 1st December Moggles?

    quite correct:

When is the Electoral Roll published?
Between August and October each year, an electoral registration form will be delivered to your home. When you receive it, you need to make sure your details are correct and send it back to your electoral registration office as soon as possible. The new Electoral Register is published on 1 December. The data is normally loaded up on our database in March of the following year.

In effect, yes. Additions/amendments made then will not appear until 1 December 2008.

thought so, that explains it then. So the old person moved out and gave a forwarding address, i.e. they have left properly. This means the council will automatically send forms for the new occupier. In your case, you move in and forms arrive - merely a coincidence, somtimes they can be there waiting for you!

I'm in a new build and the forms were there before I moved in - i.e. they gave a load to the builders to put in thw welcome pack! Then a month or so after moving in, we had a doorstop canvasser who came to take personal details of everyone and to ask the purchase price, to evaluate a band. I said mine cost £80k less than it did and several neighbours also done this - didn;t help cos still quite high (£2k+ per annum!)

anyway, point is that the process does and is still working.

So, since now in my case I have just recently sent the filled E/R form to the council, and the council told me they will add me on the 1st of July, is that right that say in August (roughly 1 month after 1st of July) this extra info will show in my credit report? or do I have to wait the 1st of December or even March/April 09? :D

the process IS working, but if someone, especially new to the country or to this is general, does not know it, it IS a nightmare.

I would see this as a benefit for finally having an ID card, instead of losing precious months of credit history everytime people move house and have to wait to build up history on the E/R... you apply for a credit card, amongst all the things they check your ID card, anf that is it!

Read this - do not join or pay them. It is a good reference guide, but definitely not a plug to join.

I do not suggest or recommend this site - I am posting a link purely to show someone the way the electoral register works.

At the bottom of the page there are links and the main one, i'm pleased to say that is there, is this: http://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/

I know what you mean, you're 4yrs though, not new

Regards to I.D cards - forget it, they cannot verify addresses - only the person. The electoral register has always been used to perform verification checks and always will do because it is almost foolproof.

You do not lose credit history when you move, your score will dive if you move a lot in a short space of time, rightly so because that is not classed as being stable - to get credit the main criteria is stability (stability to repay amongst others).

If you move you must let the outgoing and incoming council know what your previous address was (there is space on the forms you got) and this then creates the link, as does applying for credit and quoting it as your previous address.

"If you are a British, Commonwealth, Irish or European Union citizen living in the UK , you are required by law to provide your name and address for inclusion. "

That's an interesting law. Last time I *tried* to register, I got told to !!!!!! off and said they would not add me. I guess they are forcing me to break the law?
