Hi G. I wasn't being negative. To spell it out more clearly. I think it is a GOOD thing. We all put a bit in, and hope we don't need it. But if we do, then it's there for us.<shakes head and sighs>Don't be so negative, you could jump off your roof or take up smoking or something to ensure you get your money's worth.</shakes head and sighs>
There is possibly an argument that people going private - for health, education - should not have to pay into the State alternative. But we don't need another 100 page thread - we have the Felixstowe Docks one for that.0 -
I'M just having a chuckle at you all saying why should doctors get good salaries.
I think that I'd rather pay doctors than footballers,celebrity figures even company directors good money.Strange that it's ok for these to be over paid yet a doctor is'nt worth it.
They are the only one's worth it.
They save lives.
And to the person mentioning the armed forces,forget it.We don't need any more armed forces.0 -
Um, shurely the OP is joking....0

It was meant to be a joke. Bit early over there for you mate.0 -
when you're ill and in need the last thing you want to have to consider is the cost ... it may be inefficient but i'd rather have it there than not....
I would recommend anyone watch that Michael Moore film 'Sicko' - real eye opener and you actually feel quite good about the NHS at the end!
When my son was very ill a while ago they jumped into action and nothing was too much trouble - worth every penny..0 -
Curiously I'm in the US.......
I'm no socialist, but the NHS is to my mind a statement of intent from our society to support those in need. I'd rather be allied to that sentiment and have a few less pounds a month than part of a group who cares only about getting more from public services than they put in.
:T
I started a rant in responce last night and deleted it, but said, less eloquantly, much the same. (apart from the being in US right now bit
)
The NHS is not comprhensive, nor can it be: in some ways I think it tries to do too much. But my goodness, I'm glad we have it. Incidently I can't get all my medecines on NHS, but I don't think I should be able to: my condition is sufficiently rare and my initial treatment was private. It would be poor value for the poplace as a whole and medical care wouldn't be significantly improved. I feel incredibly different bout people who are prepred to prtilly self fund for there medication for terminal , and more common,conditions: cancer care for example and free care for altzheimers and a plethora of other things could stnd increased funding.0 -
