Sort of...but NOT 42%! The Debbie & Andrews sausages we eat contain 97% pork and they are most definitely a sausage (and a bloody lovely sausage at that).

The sausages that state 97% pork, are the gluten free ones, thus contain no breadcrumbs/rusk. I do not think the other suasage will have such a high pork content. The sausage that contain bread crumbs will be a lower pork content. With out seeing the ingredient dec I can not be sure of that.
As for nasty ingredients, they are probaby using fresh hog skins, which is the intestine lining for the skin. They are used for the best sausages as authentic recipe. They look unpleasant and smell worse. But when TV show critisice cheap food they will not mention this about the premium sausages.
For the record i eat both cheap and expensive sausages.

Not surprised by those findings, MrsE. We had some on the BBQ last night (OK, we cheat and use that outdoor George Foreman contraption! :p) and cleaning the grill after was the easiest it's ever been. They just don't seem to have any fat content at all....

  • 58% meat- sorry but i that sauage would not even touch my lips,

    money saving: yes,

health saving: no, you have to wonder whats in it!!!!
Mainly cheap sausages use wheat to bulk them out. Fat and wheat if you look at the ingredients as there are laws about what can be put into food.

asda are doing 8 pork sausages for 50p, 454g, 58% pork. Sausage and Mash for me tonight.
Thanks for the tip and some skint peoples might well go for these.
Personally I'd wonder what the other 42% is though (obviously some rusk etc) :o.
TBH we buy local butcher sausages mostly.

I've had them, but I don't think they are as nice as Surrey Whites.
