Stick with Vista .... until you get problems like it losing your IP settings every time it goes into sleep mode... then change. :p

When I got a new PC recently I was a bit suspicious about Vista but it's not much different to XP on functionality and looks much better. Vista's the way!

Exactly my problem... no-one could help because apparently I was the only person in the whole wide world it happened to. At least, it wasn't 'known' to happen with the version I was using.

That's why I'm back on XP.

If this was a year ago I would advise avoid Vista like the plague. A Microsoft engineer who installed my system, XP pro, February 2007 said that he was spending the majority of his time rectifying bugs / problems with Vista. I haven't spoken to him for about a year so things may have improved.

However, I have other problems with Microsoft products such as IE 8 so when I start my appraisal for a new system I will be looking for non Microsoft alternatives.

First I've heard of that, care to enlighten us a bit more?
It's a common problem but it has a fix, which sometimes doesn't work.

First thing I did with Vista was to turn off the UAC.

Which is why I still think Vista is a mess, allow users to disable this and they will install anything often malware with no idea at all. This coupled with a lack of secure driver signing are two examples of a poor operating system in the 21st century.
