Btw - I have loads of allan keys but I've no idea what a hex key is....also I do have a teeny tiny torx like thing that fits the screws but I can't seem to angle it to get into the ones on the display - Oh wait, it would fit once the main part over the keys was off - Durr.

Allan key = hex key (cos it's hexagonal ;))

An excellent excuse. Have you considered a career in politics

No I'm not good enough at lying plus I'd have to change my excuse to:

"I thought my mansions pond needed a floating island for the ducks and before I knew what was going on I claimed for it...Honest!"

    Or

"I thought I was still paying for that mortgage and the extra I saw in my bank was a pay rise because I was doing my job properly... Honest!"

    Or

"This would never have happened under a conservative government... Honest!"

Anyway wheres marty coming to defend those flimsy aluminium cases!

Thing is it isn't flimsy, yes a bit of it has dented thus making the rest of the frame poke out when attempting to close the lid, but if it was a regular ol' plastic laptop, I'm thinking it probably would of smashed to bits!
It's still working perfectly. It even looks fine when it's open.

When my mum knocked her laptop off the edge of her chair, the screen had a bit crack through it and all the plastic casing had big cracks down it.

    I still prefer this :p

I'd hate to see metal cracking. Plastic cracks metal bends. Drop (read tripped of a two yr old) my laptop the other day all that happened was some keys fell off, dropped an old laptop once screen smashed. Pot luck really never had the casing crack though.

Maybe it depends on the make of it? The laptop my mum had was quite a cheapy one, though she has one now worth about £900, and it feels very flimsy to me. Maybe it's stronger than I think, just as I'm used to this metal one.

Think I will give it a bash and try and fix it myself, if I can't then hey ho I'll make do until/if it gets worse, then I'll just buck in and pay the £200, couldn't go back to using the desktop we have. It feels alien.

Just take your time, you'll be fine. Mind where the screws go!

I had a history teacher in school called Alan Keyes.

He was on Mastermind once, and his specialist subject was "the life and times of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough".
