I worked in hotels in York and if you are staying over a weekend most of them require a 2 night stay. Try http://www.visityork.org/ as you can check availablity for when you want to stay. Hope you find somewhere nice.0

This is quite true for the independent hotels, however, many of the budget chains offer one night, eg Premier Inn, Travelodge, Innkeeper, HI.0 -
we stayed in the Black Bull innkeepers Lodge, it's maybe a 15 min walk into the centre, straight down the road but is also on a bus route, has ample car parking and free continental breakfast.
Highly recommend it good food, nice spcaious rooms and friendly staff0 -

Stayed here a year or so ago, although it's changed hands now. Easily walkable to the centre, car park opposite and if you speak to the hotel direct they can book you a place.
Lovely rooms, nice breakfast.
Hope that helps
The Hotel 53 formally the Quailty York is located in the centre of York city. York Castle Museum and Cliffords Tower are opposite the hotel and the Jorvik centre is within 15 minutes walk. York train station, where you will find the National Railway Museum is, 1 mile away. York Minster is 20 minutes by foot. Just 10 minutes walk is "The Shambles", one of the best-preserved and most famous medieval shopping streets in Europe and home to many cafes, jewellery, craft and clothes shops.0 -

Totally agree about the inn and location, but the food is mank. However, it's easily accessible to town and a taxi wouldn't be too dear.0 -
Yes the Premier Inn North West is beside a park and ride, about 3 mins by car. I stayed there a year ago, and had no problems getting park and ride bus.
There is a pub attached, and also a thai restaurant next door. Other pubs nearby too.0 -

okay cool , shes booked that one now
sound slike they can park n ride and do the city during the day and find somewhere walking /small drive for a night time meal0 -
Glad I could help! I took my Mam there, so I know it is a good location as an alternatve to staying in the centre itself.
We had intended to eat elsewhere, but as it was chucking it with rain on the night time we bottled out and ate in the pub attached!
If my memory serves right, there was a pub opposite the Rawcliffe park and ride (which is where they will be getting the bus). It was one of those chain pubs, sizzling one or two for one, something like that.
Also some pubs at the Clifton Moor retail place a little further afield.
If you look at the online maps on the york city councils website, you can see exactly where the Inn is in relation to the park and ride and also the pubs (which is why it is a better map to use than google in this case!).
Hope they enjoy themselves!0
