I stayed at the lovely Carlton House hotel in York last December. There is limited parking , but it's certainly waliking distance into York and the breakfast is to die for and also the owners are a mine of local infomation. Oh and by the way I have no links whatsever with this hotel - just a very happy customer0

how limited is their parking ? its the g/f taking her mother there , she'd prefer somewhere there will deffinetly be a space to park0

My visit was with my mum too! I'm not sure exactly how many spaces they have, probably best to contact them directly - they have a website and respond to emails. We left the car keys with the owner which was no problem at all and allowed double parking etc. To be honest we stayed 3 nights and never used the car once - we walked everywhere and mum is over 70.0

What about the Travelodge? We've stayed there a couple of times its right in the centre and has always been spot on. The parking is unfortunately pay and display but wasn't too expensive really.
Hth.
P.S We've also stayed at the Novotel quite expensive unless theres deals on and stayed at the Premiertravelinn both reasonably easy to get into the centre and both have free parking.0 -
Try Laterooms.com and go through Quidco. I have had some good deals here, but have not been to York.0

My daughter and I stayed at the Travel Lodge, its right in the centre. Parking is pay and display but was very reasonable, The Lodge is right next to Weatherspoons who do a really great breakfast.Sealed pot challenge 5430

, that is a shame - much nicer than a travel lodge, Good luck with the hunt 0 -
i did consider the travel lodge on the outskirts ...maybe drive to the park and ride in the days and a local pub for a evening meal0

The Travelodge in the centre is nice, and a pay and display carpark literally next door. Easy walk into town day or night. I would think twice about the tadcaster one, it is only accessible from one side of the carriageway, and as far as I know there are no pubs close by, just a Little Chef. The Premier on the other side, is lovely and can be accessed from either side. It has its own restaurant which is OK and reasonably priced.0
