well I certainly didn't call anyone stupid and my understanding of the word 'buffoon' suggests something like 'one who entertains by their antics' or similar.
I personally was certainly very entertained by the phrase "I couldn't actually afford to set up a savings account and pay in 30pm at the moment, but I can afford to throw a pound in the jar every day." so, for me, it was a moment of buffoonery. Whilst I will concede that Ian may not be a full time buffoon, this was surely a time when he strayed over to this noble art.

This bit:

Do that five times and you're 20 quid down without noticing." didn't so much amuse and entertain as worry and bewilder me - I've wasted money in fruit machines before now but I accept it as a cost for a few minutes of (admittedly fairly moronic) entertainment - to do this "without noticing" seems very disturbing to me.
