Just wanted to show some support for Mike. His opinions are actually quite reasonable. His responses to people are quite playful and clever in nature and are certainly more polite than the backlash that has been directed at him (see the post above).

MARTIN SAYS BE NICE TO ALL MONEYSAVERS!

Mike, if you don't like it here, and reading the posts is such a trial for you, then please feel free to leave.

If you stay, please stop insulting people, taking the mickey, and otherwise being 'not nice' or I'll report you to the mods and have you banned.

People come here for help support and some light relief from the daily dirge of trying to get out of debt, not to be attacked by you or anyone else.

Remember, if you can;t say anything nice, then don't say anything at all (or go the Arms and see if you can hold your own there!)

I'm with lipidicman on this one.

It's odd how some posts are interpreted.
I'm sure if mike had put some smilies in his posts, it would have been clear that he was just being playful and humorous. I was really enjoying his posts until everyone started having a go at him. Like lipidicman said, mike's posts are not half as offensive as the ones directed at him by all and sundry.

And even if you don't agree with his way of phrasing it, the guy has a point....saying that you can't afford to save £30 a month, but you can afford to save a £1 coin per day makes no sense whatsoever!

From a purely fiscal point of view, picking an arbitrary coin (£2, 20p, £1 whatever) to save doesn't make a lot of sense. If you can afford to stash them away from your budget, you can afford to cut the budget or underspend and save what's left. I thought about doing it, but realised I'd be much better off underspending and moving more money into a high interest savings account each month - be it £1.31 or whatever amount I'd underspent by.

But what has mike done that could possibly justify a banning (apart from not joining in the backslapping)?

I have collated all of his offensive posts on this thread. This is it

Erm, I couldn't've put it better myself, but let me try...
"I can't afford to save £30 per month but I can afford to save £30 per month if I pretend to be stupid and save £1 per day"
    .....
yup, pages and pages of worthless drivel, I haven't got time to wade through it all to find the decent posts

That was all I could find, and personally I only think the first one counts

Ok so he has called one person a buffoon (for using the contents of his pockets to absent mindedly feed a 'fruity'). He has said someone was 'pretending to be stupid' not that they were 'stupid' (I think this is exactly what they were doing!) and he has asserted that this forum is full of drivel. For most people most things will be drivel, you do need to do a lot of filtering here!

For Mike's efforts in pointing out the arbitrary nature of saving £2 coins (e.g. needing to take a tenner out because you are saving the £2 coin in your pocket) and entertaining those of us willing to take his points on board he has been called an 'arrogant tw*t' and threatened with banning.

People, get a grip. If you can't handle somebody questioning your actions then how do you manage in the real world?

Right that's it, I'll shut up. I'm keeping my head down. Maybe some smilies will help?? :j

I think the phrase "live and let live" is useful here.
I go on a lot of web forums and I have learned to just ignore stuff you don't want to read. Trying to change peoples beliefs often antagonises them.

I am a member of the £2 club. Yes it does seem daft posting each time you get a £2 coin but from my point of view the £2 coin thread has revolutionised what I do with my loose change. I used to bag it all up and lose 7% in the machine at Sainsburys and then the voucher would go towards the run of the mill weekly stuff.

Now I count and sort it all.
All the £1's go into a YBS account belonging to my baby son. That money is for treats on our summer holiday. Money is tight for me as I have gone part time to look after my son. I am a crap saver.
The £2's and everything else go into a halifax save4 it account belonging to my baby son. That money is for family "rainy day" fund - i.e. if the washing machine goes bang or whatever.

I am a very impulsive person who is crap at saving. Since joining the £2 club I have started to turn the corner.

Since joining the £2.00 club I never seem to get any either!

The last one I had, I had to get it changed for my bus home! Shame, but it would have grieved me spending £2.00 on a £1.20 bus trip ( sad I know, but those 80ps mount up!)

Well this is all good. Especially as you are depositing the money in a savings account. If the process teaches you the value of saving then all power to you.

(Just wondering why your rainy day fund is in your child's name. Shouldn't his account contain his money? Do you do this to get tax free interest and wouldn't an ISA pay better here?)
