I must admit I tried the £2.00 club but had no will power, got 4 and spent them. I'm now trying to do the 20p one as £8.00 in 20ps is more embarassing at Tescos!
  • I've still not had any constructive criticism (or Thanks ) for my post on about page 140 of the silly £2 coin savers club thread

    Hiya Mike...

Just read your post on about page 140.... dare say you have a point.
I seldom get £2 coins & always find the need to spend before putting in a suitable receptacle (would in theory love a terrimundi, but can't justify the cost (dead money)).
    :D

cor - you're a barrell of joy aren't you?

If you don't agree with it, ignore it - problem solved surely?
What's a 'barrell' - is it anything like a 'barrel'?

Anyway, pedanticalism (yeah, I know!) aside, I don't have a 'problem' with this silly £2 coin savers club nonsense, I think you'll find I have the solution ;)

You hit it about right - if you want 'joy' then carry on with this self congratulatory nonsense - if you want 'money saving' then keep away from falsehoods - ie don't put money under a matress but do avoid buying or buy cheaper.

Hallelujah!!! (apart from the bit about a terrimundi - which I assume was a joke, "I need to save money so I'll waste some on a box")

  • It's a morale booster. Those of us not spending don't get many - and this way we feel like a little bit of our money is still ours rather than being hoovered up by the debts.

Yes, it makes more sense to bank it, and yes you can spend a fortune on buying a money bank, but at the end of the day, it's each to their own, surely? If you don't like the party, do you stay anyway?

  • Mike I think you're missing the point somewhat.
I think not, I think I understand too much, but hey ho...
That money "saved" (perhaps collected) is available in one big pile when you've got enough.
    So??? How does this help?
    Its also fun
Really??? Each to their own I suppose
Complete fiscal nonsense, I totally agree.
Hurrah! - that's all I'm trying to say

So, this is a party is it? Sorry, I'm awfully confused, for some reason I thought this website was about saving money, perhaps I misinterpreted the meaning of moneysavingexpert - does it really mean 'self congratulatory love fest' ?

Is it just me or are people here for help and support or delusory pats on the back?

    Mike
  • It helps because its basically money you never knew you didn't have.
Sounds like a dimension I've never heard of - now I'm scared.
I keep a whiskey jar for the same reason. :shhh:
That's OK, as long as it's not the Scottish stuff.
I would usually throw in a fruity in the pub. Do that five times and you're 20 quid down without noticing.
D'oh!!! Notice, you buffoon - this is real money - drunk or not!!!!
Sounds very anal and pointless, but its discipline. I couldn't actually afford to set up a savings account and pay in 30pm at the moment, but I can afford to throw a pound in the jar every day.

    Strange but true :shhh:
Erm, I couldn't've put it better myself, but let me try...
"I can't afford to save £30 per month but I can afford to save £30 per month if I pretend to be stupid and save £1 per day" - have I got this wrong?

    Mike
  • Yeah that name was gone so thats still unofficial at the moment.

Yeah, as long as everybody realises that it is DELUDED fun, then that's OK.
