Currently npower standard sign online 12. It was fine when I last changed in November, but several have dropped since I think.

I have compared against the lowest priced of the UW tariffs, the high user. Our usage is fairly high, because I work from home, have computers on all day (and a server runs 24 hrs), and I'm disabled so tend to need the heating on more than most others.

Are you sure you have those figures correct?

Using NPower standard sign on-line 12 for various combinations of consumption, in various areas - and on different comparison websites - UW is £hundreds more expensive.

In fact NPower standard sign on-line 12 appears quite competitive.

What kWh consumption did you use?

well I thought so, but actually trying to get some proper work done between times, so may have got it a bit wrong.

6873 Electricity, and 15354 gas, which was the full year up to last november (when I last changed)
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

No your figures were correct for your consumption - Your electricity is high but your gas is low - and UW are only £180+ more than BG, EON, and NPower.

For my area the difference is greater.

Just as a matter of interest ....

As UW is the same price as my current provider, can I swap to them for a couple of months (salve my conscience with this chap), then switch properly after that?

You see I'm a soft hearted girl ...

There is nothing to stop you doing it contractually, but won't he be even more dashed by this? They only get a fiver for switching g+e plus a commission on your bill. And you will be fair game for him to pester you to take on more services (they get more commission for signing you up to internet etc), and of course try and interest you in joining his team!

If you want to switch to uw why not use a switching site (eg £34 for dual fuel switch via the MSE link to energylinx). The £70 quidco eon cashback may not be around long!

But see DaveW007's troubles (after mistakenly joining up) on trying to get his final bill sorted after leaving them and decide if the hassle is worth it!

Why would you want to do that when you can get your energy considerably cheaper and get cashback? He will only get his commission while you are with UW, so he would be the first to know that you had switched again!

If you're that soft hearted, give him £50 as a gift to salve your conscience.

Call it the price of friendship!!!!

Well he came round to talk to me about it today, but went into lots of detail about his marriage troubles. His W took the whole early retirement bit hard apparently, they don't talk properly, she's unhappy but he doesn't know what she wants .... culminating in telling me that she now sleeps in the spare room 5.gif.

Now we were never more than just, well acquaintances I thought, and I was very uncomfortable with the conversation. I moved it on to the business of the Gas bills etc.

As he left, he said how nice it was to see me after such a long time, and he will drop in to see what I've decided in a few days, for more of my delicious coffee...

Now this guy is in his late 60s, I suspect feeling a bit lonely, and I don't know how to respond....

Is this a sales technique they are taught !!! or should I worry for my virtue .. (which is not as my posting name suggests) .

This is the "clever" way they do business.

There are over 20,000 of them with an average of around 10 customers each, drawn in the main from their "warm" list of friends/family/associates/friends of friends. It's harder to say no to someone you know personally or a member of your family!

No other energy business operates in this way, so they are at least truly unique!
