TV has increased price

Options
Hi there,

I have found a 42" Clarity LCD TV (CTVL42WD) that I like the look of, and is retailing at £449 with Tesco Direct, with double clubcard points.

Reviews seem to be very positive, as below..

I've tried searching the usual price comparison channels, Kelkoo etc, and they don't even find this product, never mind finding it cheaper.

And.. when I put it into Google, I see it has cost only £399 in the past, also from Tesco Direct. I notice now they offer a "free" Sky HD box, although this looks like it is hiking the price up. The links below show review sites pricing it at £399. I am not interested in the Sky HD (I live in a green belt area and Sky is not an option)

Can anybody advise a course of action..? I have spoken to Tesco briefly to see if they would offer me it at £399 without the HD, but they shot me down straight away. Can anybody out there find it for cheaper than £449? Maybe I'm missing something...

Many thanks in anticiaption - I'm inspired to buy the TV by the end of the weekend.

Our TV was bought in November for £930. The following money it wnt up to £1150.

Theresa no reason other than currency fluctuations at the moment and that may be the reason why.

I'm now slightly concerned.. can anybody tell me if it is a full HD TV? It says it is on the review, but doesn't mention it on the Tesco Direct website..

No it isn't "full" HD - by which I think you mean is it of the highest definition?

Highest definition is 1080P - you would really notice the difference on a bluray disc or an HD broadcast if you put it alongside a similar sized 1080P set.
Contrast ratio not very inspiring either.

Nobody broadcasts in 1080p so I can't see how you worked that one out.
  • Full HD is 1920×1080. The TV you're looking at is 1366x768.

You won't find many full HD 42" TV's for £400 (if any).

Prices have been tipped to rise for a while because of value of the pound against the yen.

I know broadcasters use 1080i but you can't tell me that for picture quality, a 1080P set is not better than the Clarity model the OP is referring to both for television or blu-ray.

There is absolutely no benefit whatsoever in having a 1080p TV to watch any broadcast in 1080i.

I cannot comment on the Clarity TV listed by the OP, other than I would not buy one.

Personally I would noy buy any 42" LCD TV, I would only buy a qualty Plasma at that screen size.

Talk about price fluctuations. It seems to be down to £400 again now but they only have a few left
  • Am I glad I came back to this thread! I bought the television yesterday.. and after seeing davethorp's post, I phoned Tesco and they've passed the £50 discount on to me.

    Delighted!
