I just tried it on the top loading Tesco Value DVD player (DVD306) and it does work but I feel the instructions could be tweaked a little to make it easier to understand.

    1) Open the disc drive
    2) Press Setup on the Remote Control
    3) Press the Next button (looks like >>|) four times
The currently selected region will be on screen. If not, try the procedure again from the beginning.
    4) Press Left on the remote (looks like <<) until the number 255 is selected
    5) Press Setup

Enjoy your multiregion DVD player :)
  • I have a Technika 1030 DVD which now just says "wrong disc" every time I put a disc in and I haven't even hacked it or anything.
  • This is my first post, so I hope it is not only useful but also in the right pace.
At the end of February I bought a Technika DVD 1033 for 17.95 from my local Tesco store. I couldn't find any hack to make it region free, so I took it back and got a full refund.
Today (March 1st) I bought a Tesco DVD306 (manual top-loader) from the same Tesco store for 14.95, and got the region-free hack from one of Martins recommended sites within a minute, and within the next minute it was playing a Region 1 DVD without any problem.
Interestingly neither player had any reference to region coding on the box or on the machine itself.

    First .. Welcome.

Second.. Your post may have been more usefull here... to help other people.

Some might get annoyed because you have revived a 2 year old thread but dont mind them... At least you made the effort and never started a new thread here..

    Good on you :T

I got one of these dvd players a few years back now and Ihave to say it is good and lasted longer than a more expensive one I bought for downstairs.

Slightly off topic as this topic is about making these multi-region...
Can anyone confirm (or not) that this player will play DVD+RW discs?
I plan to get one to play DVDs written on my DVD recorder.
    Thanks

How about Philips DVD Player at Richer sounds for VIP members....it can also be made multi region?
  • For those of you who, like me bought the Tesco Value own brand FLIP TOP DVD player suddenly displaying the 'Wrong Disc' message and NOT the Technika 103...
I have found a quick fix utilising all the skills of my trade at my disposal. Follow the highly technical steps below precisely....

    1) Open the flip top and give the lens a quick wipe with a soft cloth
    2) Load Disc and close the flip top
    3) When 'Loading' apears pick up the player in your right hand and turn it with the button side facing down over a hard surface
    4) Give it a good tap - I stopped short of hitting it with a hammer as that requires a special tool...
    5) Hey Presto! The disc loads.
Worked on my player - one my mother had and a mate's. Give it a go - it was going in the bin anyway wasn't it? To be serious for a moment it does suggest to me that the fault lies in the lens transit or focusing mechanism somewhere - but for £17 what do you expect? The DVD you bought to play in it probably cost as much - you get what you pay for.
