next doors builders have damaged my shed, best way to handle it.

what would suggest the best way of dealing with this i have a metal shed in our rental bungalow and this morning the builder working on next doors bunglow were rendering the outside walls. Where the extension comes from the middle of the semi detached houses it looks as f one of the men has stood on top of the metal shed and its dented by about 2ft by a 1ft. I was using it to store stuff that we previously had in the garage where we use to live and it as fine before it was damaged. We were due to move in a couple of weeks i was going to list it on ebay but now i get less for it. do you think its reasonable for me to ask them to buy the shed from me or at least pay towards he damage (although how i arise at a figure i'm not sure) the sheds a year old but as i say had no damage and i was hoping i would get a good price for it.

You say it looks as if one of them stood on it, can you prove it?

i can't prove it but this morning when i left the rendering guy was mixing the render in a bucket, when i came home from work there is render spashed down the the side of the shed, the wall is fully rendered and i have a great big dent in my shed roof.

its pretty low if one of them has and not had the balls to knock on the door and admit to it.

I can't quite picture the scene, but you're saying they've used the shed as a platform whilst they've been rendering the neighbours walls? Are there any other signs of such use, e.g. footprints, dirt, cememt, paint, on the roof?

I don't envy you. It seems like without you being able to say, 'I saw them do it', it's going to be difficult to prove and pretty much hinge on them being honest when confronted with the allegation.

Edit: Doh, you've posted as I was writing. :)

How well do you know your neighbour? Could you take it to them, rather than direct to the builders? Was your neighbour home? Do you think they could have seen it happen? I know I'd be monitoring people whilst they worked on my property.

i havent yet but i dont see why i should mess around fixing something that wasnt damaged when i left it this morning. i;m obvisouly way to honest. :DWhen my missus knocked a car in the car park i left a note on the windscreen giving them my details. Just thought it was the right thing to do. I would understand if they hadnt of realised but this is noticeable and he would have felt it when he stood on it.

its just that would have expected somone to pop round and say sorry.

there this a wall between the two houses about 4ft high, hes stood on that to render the top of the extension wall and i guess either stepped back when he was off balance or stood on it to give him a step up.

i'll try to post some photos..

i do know them to say hello, they arent living there as the house has been completely gutted the do pop in every few days. I mentioned to my wife hat i could ask them, perhaps the builders will just tell me to sod off but at least they know i know they have done it rather than to scared to say anything to them.
I wasjust going to ask one of the guys tomorrow before leaving for work if the guy that was plastering mentioned standing on the shed roof. at the end of the day, they have took the fence panel off aswell and splashed plaster over the beds. I'm sure the landlord will say something about it all.

It's not just a bent roof, it's also render on your building and in your flower beds. That makes it easier to get sorted. You present it to your neighbour as a package of those three things. Two can't really be denied and the third (bent shed) will just be accepted. Get an agreement for them to deal with it.

yeah, the front of the house also has render that has been smoothed onto our property, plus render splashes again that are on the tarmac at the front of the house.
the shed cost £239.00 and i was hoping to get a fair bit of that back on ebay, I dont doubt it will sell just not as much as before.
