I have bought some frozen tuna steaks from Aldi and when we were eating them, we noticed there are black thread type things in between the sections of tuna. Does anyone know what this is?
I have never seen this before in tuna and am now worried as to what it was!
Thanks

Anisakis worms, you get them in all sorts of fish, I can recall working in a restaurant when I was a kid and one of my jobs was pulling worms out of the cod flesh.

Is it something I should accept or should I take the rest of the tuna steaks back to the shop?
I am worried that my children have eaten the tuna. Will they be poorly, or is the risk only when the tuna is raw (the tuna was frozen then thoroughly cooked).0 -

I think quite a lot of fish has worms in the flesh, as long as it was well cooked then you will be fine.0 -
I can;t look at the gross link as it may put me off tuna for life. Could it be the intestine? Sorry if that's a silly thing to say! Ergh!A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

My uncle used to go fishing by the time he got home there used to be worms crawling out of both ends of the fish.
It was gross.0 -

Whilst unpleasant, these worms are pefectly natural. All fish have parasitic worms Most of these live in the gut, and are therefore removed when the fish is gutted, but some have evolved to live in the muscle tissue.
Having been both frozen and cooked, I don't think they posed any threat whatsoever.
The OS viewpoint would be that they were free extra protein! The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

Mush some tomato ketchup in and they won't even see the parasites."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0
