You shouldn't need to inform SLC as your repayments come from PAYE. However, I'd check your statements to make sure they do credit all payments from your old and new jobs as I did have some problems (though I got married and changed my name at the same time which probably didn't help).

I think what will happen is that the months you earn over £1250 you will pay 9% of your income over that to SLC, but any months you earn less than that you won't pay anything. I understand if this happens and you ultimately earn less than £15k over the whole year you can ask them to refund the payments you've made, but don't know how easy this would be to do.

Aaaarrgggghhhhhh! Well apparently the girl I spoke to the other week who told me that my loan application was just waiting for confirmation of enrollment was talking out of her bum! Rang up again just now as I haven't heard anything since then and they are waiting for a P60 from my partner, which the website said he didn't have to send! Why are people so !!!!!!!! useless! Grrr, it could take weeks to get my money sorted now. Am so furious. I am broke and my train tickets to uni cost nearly £10 per day. I can't afford that til I get my loan. Arrrggghhhhhhhhhhh
  • I've heard about them... I'm pretty sure i qualify for one... *Confused*
I have applied and been granting full funding from the SLC... but I'm a bit lost as to the bursary side of things, i haven't recieved any information about it since i handed my form in. I remembered part of the application form that asked whether you wanted to let the University have information about parents household income, but i dont remember whether i ticked it or not. Could this have effected the bursary?
As you can probably tell i am extremely confused about the whole thing!
Any information would be very much appreciated

  • Hi

    Maybe you can help me:

I was due to get my loan on 22 Sept, as I re-enroled at my uni via post two weeks beforehand.
However, my university has not informed SLC that I've re-enroled so the loan hasn't been put in my bank yet.
I've spoken to my university and they haven't helped me - I don't even know who to speak to (!), and the student loans company won't do anything without the uni's say-so.

I'm meant to pay my rent tomorrow and I can't afford to do so without the loan.

What should I do/ Who should I speak to?

    Thanks!!

I'm scottish, filled in a SAAS form completely, SAAS have my bank details but the SLC claim that they don't have them - what's with that? Also the forms i return to inform them keep getting "lost" in the post.

I thought you had to physically register at the uni before the information gets sent to SLC. The loan then follows approx 3 days later.

Suggest you speak to your landlord, the only thing worse than not receiving rent is not knowing you are not going to receive it!

I've been hearing of quite a lot of complaints about the SLC because of this sort of thing. I don't know what you can do, but I know that you're not alone in this.

Reading this thread will send a lot of people panicing. Remember it is usually the problems that get reported.

My son applied for the loan in March, application approved in April. Got accepted onto the course in August and changed the bank account registered with SLC in September.

Registered at the university on Sunday and the first loan instalment was paid into his account yesterday (wednesday).

Have faith, for the vast majority of people it will work out fine.

  • Thanks silvercar; it was me being silly, got the loan through today, there was a clerical error at my uni. And I didn't lose the flat either. Everything worked out ok :-)

  • Hi, I was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice.

I deferred my final year assigments last year due to ill health, until assessment period this (academic) year. I was under the impression that it would be straight forward...... I wouldn't need to go to lectures, just hand my work in before the deadlines.

I went to enrole yesterday and I was told that because I deferred twice (from april to august and then august until this next assesment period), I have to attend modules and pay for them.

The total is £2625 (£525 for each module). This will be me my 5th year at uni. (I resat my 2nd year) and I have had my fee's paid for 4 years and received 4 loans. Im not really expecting my fee's to be paid again but I have no idea what to do. I haven't applied for a loan because I didn't realise I would need to attend lectures.

Is there any point in applying for a student loan if I have recieved 4 already? Im really going to struggle finding this sort of money but I dont want to give up after 5 years of studying (including have 2 kids inbetween), to throw it in at this point would be heartbreaking.

    Thanks
    Emma
